Strengths: Nice picture. Nice remote. Easy to program.
Weaknesses: Doesn't show the seconds, only minutes when viewing. Shows neither when taping. Goofy system of OTR. But passable.
Summary: VCR's are now dinosaurs. But I still want one and they aren't making them the way they used to. Progress has gone backwards, and VCR's are another example of technology letting us down. No VCR on today's market holds a candle to the first RCA model 619 I bought about 25 years ago. So now I recently bought a Panasonic. What a total piece of junk. Back to Costco! Then I tried a Toshiba. Another loser. Digital tracking is only good when it works! And on both those models, it never did. So I scoured endless reviews of all makes and models and basically what I found out was that nobody seemed too happy with anything they bought. Stumbled on a sale at Target for the Sony SLV N500. $79.99. Not much of a sale really, because that is the going price on a lot of Internet sites. The features seemed OK, except I couldn't find any reviews. So I figured it was a really new model and since I got a 90 day return policy, decided to give it a shot. I was nervous that the N500 was another name for the N50. Still not sure what the differences are. Anyhow, I feel like I hit the jackpot with this unit. Go for it. It's the best we can do.
