Strengths: NXT so the frequency response is pretty flat
Weaknesses: I am dissapointed, I still have m Monsoon speakers, which is also NXT.
Summary: I bought these to compare with my old monsoon speakers and for one of my twins computer. I was hoping these will sound better than my old monsoon. Nope, they actually sound worse, which is very disapointing given they use exact same technology.
I tested them by connecting them to a single Game Theater XP sound card and simply switching back and forth while play8ing high quality ape files.
These speakers sound a bit limited compared with my olfd monsoons. Even my 12 year old, would notice the difference, when switching back and forth you can clearly hear the old monsoon speakers have a lot wider frequency response and a lot less if any coloration. The VLS21 sound narrow and small compared with monsoon, at same volume levels.
So, basically since there is no alternative on the market right now, and $100 is less than what I paid for monsoon speakers, please get them if you want high quality, low level playback at the computer for personal listening.
And they would be awesome for kids computers since they are extremely sturdy, as I dropped them all from the desk, they actually cut into some wood with their sharp edges and played fine after that!
Otherwise, if you are loaded I guess go for some studio monitor type speakers.
