Strengths: Excellent Bass reproduction, Throw in a line-level converter and you get 35W more!!
Weaknesses: None experienced! Although, the speakers tend to reproduce bass due to leakage if you don't use em in a box which is not built to the specs. That's not sony's fault.
Summary: After researching on the internet for almost a month, I decided to go in for these babies since on Circuit City and elsewhere a lot of people had recommended it. I wasn't into competition and fame! I just wanted a decent pair of sub system for my car at a price. After doing a PriceGrabber search I found that Etronics.com were shipping these for $135/pair and I got 'em by paying $10 for shipping. The speakers arrived and although the box in which they arrived where damaged, SONY's packaging withstood the shipping.

After taking a look at the specs, I took 2 weeks to build my own custom speaker box. After several trips to Home Depot and a local carpenter, I finally had the box built to the specs. One point to be noted here is that if you want good and sharp bass you will need to build your box to the exact specs without which you will need to tune your amps and what not to get it right.

I bought a refurb Rockford Fosgate 500BD Amp with 500W in a Parallel configuration and it was sweet. Finally got it mounted and these babies sound way too good for the price I paid for them. I totally spent around $550 for the entire setup and the installer told me that this setup would have probably cost a Grand for the sound he was hearing.

You also need a good head unit if you want good reproduction. I had a factory installed Infinity Sound system pumping 180W. I would also recommend throwing in a pair of tweeters because believe me, the sound will blow you away and all you will hear is BOOM BOOM..

I took my time to experience this pair so that I can write an accurate review.

Bottom line: Good Set of Speakers for the money you spend on them..

NOTE: DONT GET THE REFURBS FROM UBID.They aint as good as they advertise 'em to be..

Strengths: Loud Reverberating Bass. Can take Max the amp can push. Can really FEEL it, not just hear. No wear in long repeated use.
Weaknesses: Oscillates if grounds are connected to the speaker.
Summary: I bought 2 of these subs through ebay for about the price they are listed here. I installed them with no problem in the 94' camaro back. Just cut out holes in the unused sides. Small enough that the T-Tops can go right back into their slots while subs in use. Had to buy a 2400watt amp to power these babys, and I have no regrets. They worked perfect from the beginning. Just don't connect the grounds to the base of the speaker because they begin to oscillate. Make sure ground is connected AWAY from speakers.

Strengths: Cheap price, good sound for your money
Weaknesses: none that I know of so far
Summary: I struggled with the decision of what subs to buy and where to buy them. A friend of mine told me about this site and these subs and i checked them out after many hours deliberating at Best Buy and Circuit City looking at their selection. Finally I decided to look at this site and saw that the prices were about half the price at the stores. I decided to buy them and now am very happy with them.

1 Star ReviewPicked up this sub just to test it to see why ever ...
Strengths: non, sony sux alot!!
Weaknesses: This sub is a prime example of mass production with lots of moronic people pushing the product just because its the only brand they know.
Summary: Picked up this sub just to test it to see why everyone says sony is the best bla bla bla, , , whell, , i did my testing, ,with a REAL amp, an Alpine MRD-M500, , put the sub in a 1 cubeic foot sealed enclosure and broke it in over night. Then i went to town playing every track from fast rolling beats to deep low bass, , and let me tell you, , this sub had the accuracy of a 50" trampoline, it never hit a note like i was expecting it to, , is shure wasn't loud either. I now know for shure that sony sucks, , you get what you pay for... it dosn't compare to any reputable brands cheepest sub like the alpines, rockford, JL's, mtx, , This sub was absolutly useless to me, , i couldn't sell it and dissapoint any one, , so i cranked it for about 2 min on the mrd-m500 and she blew, , that would have to be a record fast blow too. Iv personally plugged an Alpine type-E $60 into a wall outlet and it lasted 5 min, , shows quality difference.

bottom line, sony really is a big hype and waste of money, stick with your major stereo brands and you can't go wrong.
