This game really did not do enough to make me want ...
Strengths: Good character designs, decent voice acting.
Weaknesses: Muddled battle system, price way too high for amount of game. Should be two-part series, not four.
Summary: This game really did not do enough to make me want more. While the graphics and character designs were good, the story was ridiculous, and the attempt to make you feel like you were playing a game within a game simply didn't work. If you didn't know ahead of time the opening screen was supposed to be you sitting at your computer, you wouldn't be able to guess what was going on at all. As for the actual game play, it's a mixed bag. I liked the characters, but the dungeons were very simplistic and overly repetitive. The music was okay, if uninspired. I had no problem with abilities being connected to various equipment--it actually made for a more thought out and strategic use of resources. My main complaint with this game is the battle system. What a mess! Half the time, you can't even see who you are supposed to be fighting, because the game throws up all sorts of unnecessary graphics (mostly textual) which obscure what is going on in front of you. It really made battles a chore. If you are a fan of the anime series, I suppose that you will enjoy this game. Purely as a game, I think this one falls a bit flat, and due to its length, should not be priced as a full-fledged game. Over this game I would recommend Final Fantasy X , Dark Cloud 2, or even Ratchet and Clank, all of which have better story lines and less muddled battle systems. Plus, they are all full games. While I enjoyed playing this game well enough, I cannot envision buying any more in this series. Maybe a rental.
