Strengths: Great optics for price, very crisp image, very ergonomic feel, twist up eyecups, inset diopter
Weaknesses: Focus could be slightly faster, case is too small, objective caps should be tethered to avoid loss
Summary: After 10+ years of birding with my trusty old Bushnell Custom Compact 7x26's, I finally decided to buy a quality pair of full-sized binoculars. I conducted some fairly extensive research on-line and tried out numerous pairs ranging up to $1500 in various local stores before purchasing the Swift 828's sight unseen from EagleOptics.com. I think that I made the right choice. The image through these bins is ultra crisp. They feel great in my hands, e.g., the focus knob is easily accessed and thumb rests / indentations are a very nice touch. They feel solid and sturdy but are light enough to hold up / still for extended periods of time. The focus is a little slow, but as a result, allows for very fine tuning of the image. That's about all that I can think of at the moment except this: I did a side by side test with a friend's pair of Swaro EL's at dusk. Of course, the EL's were noticeably brighter and slightly sharper and for that reason- the 828's only get 4 stars. However, I'm of the opinion that the relatively small difference in image quality does not nearly justify the HUGE $1250+!!!! difference in price. If you are in the market for some quality roof prism bins but don't want to break the bank, check out the Swift 828's.
