Strengths: Uses my old Hi-8 tapes; so I don't need to start using yet another medium
Weaknesses: Larger than the DV camcorders.
Summary: This is my third Sony camcorder in thirteen years, and it is the lowest end of their product line that I have ever purchased. (our second unit broke from abusive use )It has more features, is smaller, and works better in low light than the first Sony I bought. And price-wise at $325 (versus $800 for my first unit), it seems a good buy, particularly considering I can still use my Hi-8 cartridges.

Strengths: Vary cheap, good starter camera, FIREWIRE and USB
Weaknesses: not the greatest image possible, NEEDS A BETTER LIGHT
Summary: i use this camera for filing skaters, desert stuff, and a lot of other pointless stuff. Holds up vary nicely. cheap media (cheaper then the DVD's and Dv tapes out there) if u just buy a huge batt. a polerizeing filter , a external light, and a wide angle lense, this camera would rock. could be a little lighter. good for anyone just starting out.

i abuse mine alot. and it still runs. i plan on updating it with a underwater housing so i can go underwater with it soon.

Strengths: Extremely Low Price, Good night coverage..
Weaknesses: Haven't found one.
Summary: I was searching for a camcroder and came across this on sonystyle.com... for $399. Went to Walmart, price was $396.

Looked up the web and found it for $299 at bhphotovideo.com

Has all the features of TRV260 the new model of Sony but is priced $50-70 less than it.

Wow!! Have been using it since day 1 and seems to be a great bargain!!

Strengths: Handy Cam...good features, easy to use, great in low light, great optical zoom & 40x digital zoom, good playback.
Weaknesses: VCR/Camera switch somewhat cumbersome ( push green button in to move switch ), tape loading from the bottom, motor may be a little noisy (I do some video taping of wildlife during hunting ).
Summary: 2004-01-14 13:49:11 I am, so far, pleased with this camcorder. My son races Quads, so I needed something that had high Optical zoom and a decent digital zoom. I also video tape some of my bow hunt outings and needed something that had good low light resolution. This feature is necessary for indoor taping as well. Plus, I wanted the benefits digital has to offer, at a reasonable price. The DCR-TRV250 Digital-8 Digital Camcorder has all these requirements that I wanted and more. Additionally, this camcorder has good stabilization, built in light, nightshot and the menu is easy to read.

I took it hunting with me and was very pleased with how well it captured zoomed in scenery and game in low light conditions ( plus audio ). Although I do not think it spooked any game animals, the motor seemed somewhat noisy. I'm not sure at this time if it was too noisy ( it was a very quiet evening ).

Indoor low light filming also came out crystal clear and definable. Midday outdoor filming was exceptional.

I just started with this camera, and there is still a lot for me to learn as far as it's functionality, performance, and features. The manual shows all the many features this camcorder has and can be somewhat intimidating. My motto is to stick to the basics in the beginning and gradually work up to using more and more of the features this camcorder has to offer.

Although I hate Wal-Mart, I did buy it from there, since they were the only store in town that had this camera in stock ( Wal-Mart had the lowest price also ).

Strengths: Well developed camera. Everything is easy to use. Great picture.
Weaknesses: Loud tape motor. Included Software isnt the greatest.
Summary: This is my first Video camera. I love it. I have quite a few friends with video cameras and they all like this the best. It has all the features I need. I can download video to my computer. The software that comes with it isnt that great. I suggest another movie editing program. Movie Maker 2 works well and is free from Microsoft for Windows XP users. The picture quality is excellent, the steady shot feature works well, dont have jumpy recordings. A+ to Sony on a great Digital Video Camera.

Strengths: Great features, settings, etc. I'm excited about the ability to burn video on to CD Rom through this camera...user friendly and I love the permanently mounted light...
Weaknesses: The manual is a techno geeks dream...(which I'm not)...it isn't very clearly written...good thing the camera is user friendly...
Summary: Great features, easy to use, compact, user friendly, I love the permanently mounted light as well. This seems to be a very well rounded, well thought out camera. The camera even came with a "free" carrying bag which was not advertised in the publicity...I ordered from Walmart.com (who had the lowest price by far) and they shipped it a day earlier than I was expecting...however, they sent me someone else's camera (according to the invoice the camera was supposed to go to Kansas City) but I called and they said keep the camera since it was the right one...a good reminder that when you order online, you take the risk of the order getting messed up.
