Strengths: Clean video capture. Excellent video/audio syncronization.
Weaknesses: Crummy software. No hardware support for mpeg format (documentation and sales literature implies it has, but it only generates DV format ... any mpeg is done is software)
Summary: I initially shied away from the Pinnacle MovieBox because I read a number of negative reviews. However, I tried several other devices (including TDK and ADS) and couldn't find *anything* that worked well. So - I broke down and tried the MovieBox DV. Boy - am I glad I did. The software that comes with it is pretty lame - I think that's really the source of the bad reviews. But the hardware works very well. It has the higest video quality and best video/audio sync of any device I have tried, and is also recognized by all of my 3rd party video capture software (TDK was not recognized by anything but the also-lame software they included with the purchase). All-in-all, I am happy with my purchase. I just wish they included Adobe with it instead of their own Studio-8 software ... or lower the price and don't include any software so we can buy what we want.
