Strengths: Worked as expected
Weaknesses: None
Summary: I used HA400 as a headphone amp from unpowered source. My HDTV has audio line out, but no headphone out. The audio line out is not powered. Therefore, I feed the line out into the HA400. Then from HA400 to my headphones. Works great. Since I used this HA400 to amplify sound from HDTV, this is not really a hifi setup. I didn't hear any issue with the sound quality. But I don't think the sound from HDTV can be used to judge any impact (positive or negative) the amp had on quality. From the single input, HA400 has 4 outputs capability, each with separate gain control. That means 4 people can listen to the same source, and they can adjust the gain independently. Kind of overkill for my use. I'd rather they make a unit (call it HA100) that has 1 output for lower price. The unit is made of metal, but it is rather light. So with the cables running into and out of it, it will not sit flat on my table. The weight of the cables will cause it to topple over. Not an issue for me, but others might want to mount it down. Note that HA400 input and outputs are the large 1/4" plug. In my case, all my cables and headphones plugs are small 1/8" plug. Not a big deal. Just need some extra attachments.
