 I wanted to get a cheap modem to replace a Diamond ... Strengths: Very Cheap, Works Great, Easy Install
Weaknesses: Installation documentation procedures not complete.
Summary: 2004-09-19 11:28:36 I wanted to get a cheap modem to replace a Diamond Supra56k I bought not even 2 years ago and having it die on me.
This modem couldn't be much cheaper. That was my first reason for purchasing it. The fact that it will work using v.92 or v.90 is nice too. It would help to keep itself up to date with the newest comm standards.
The hardware installation was normal for an internal PSI card. But when installing the included drivers from the CDRom I ran into a small problem that I have noticed many hardware manufactures have been overlooking. I am using Win98SE. When the OS detected the new hardware and it asks for the driver location I told it I had a CDROM... It did not find them. I had to Browse the CD and point to the correct directory on the CDROM. In this case it was D:-Drivers-Win98SE. There are also directories for WinME and Win2K&XP. This was not a surprise as many drivers are sorted into directories by OS on the CDROMs provided with the hardware now a days. The installation documentation says nothing about the contents of the included CDROM. It appears to also have versions of Adobe Acrobat(4.05), Internet Explorer(5.0), Excel Viewer, Word Viewer, PowerPoint Viewer, and PICShell Supervoice for Fax comms.
Overall the Driver installation was easy and worked the first time. I was online with my ISP in less than 5 minutes after opening the box and installing the modem.
This modem died after using for only 5 months! I think I had an electrical surge that killed it.

Strengths: Easy to install. Documentation straight forward.
Weaknesses: Requires more details/documentation for additional modem features.
Summary: The 56bps V90/92 DataFax PCI Modem Internal CONEXANT Chip by TRENDnet beside being inexpensive, is a good value for the user who requires a simple solution to his/her dialup modem requirements. You cannot spend anymore and receive the value this costeffective solution represents.

Strengths: Fast transfer rates. easy install
Weaknesses: Weak documentation
Summary: This modem is fast, and installation was frightfuly easy, but the documentation is sub-par. It comes with a 'quick install' users guide, that tells you that on an XP, the system would recognise the modem, and prompt you for drivers. On my machine, there was no prompt for recognizing new hardware, but a second look showed the computer automatically recognized it as a 'generic56K' (this computer never had a modem installed in the past). I configured the IP connection, and am browsing without a glitch.
The docs don't say what are the features of the software on the CD or what advantages the native driver offers, so at this point its not clear whether to install the native driver.
In short: works out of the box, but weak docs.

Weaknesses: The setup CD did not work.
Summary: When I double clicked the setup program, it shut down my computer and began rebooting. After logging in I got a Error Reporting message that said that Windows recovered from a serious error. I tried this a second time and got the same result.
When I went to Windows Update it found a modem driver for me called CXT Modem Driver. I tried to install this at the same time as many other XP updates. Everything downloaded fine and during the install all other updates installed OK but when I got to the modem driver it shut down my computer and began rebooting. After logging in I got the serious error message again. I built a brand new PC w/specs P4 2.60CGHz 512MB PC3200 RAM 120GB Asus P4P800-VM board GeForce FX 5200 128MB video and XP Pro SP1. I have had no other issues installing any other software or hardware up until this point.
I'm not sure if it's a hardware or software problem but I'm very dissatisfied and would not recommend. Spend a little more for a better quality product.

Strengths: Cheap; comes with a phone cable; does it's job
Weaknesses: Manual in Spanish?!? Driver CD doesn't work;
Summary: I am not an expert on modems, but I can see
that this one does whatever most people expect of it.
My Windows XP recognized the modem instantly,
and that was it -- it just works. Great modem!!
My only complaint is that it came with a manual
in Spanish only, and with a driver CD which my CD reader wouldn't recognize.
Since the XP installed its own drivers,
I was trouble-free. If you have Windows 98 or 2000 though, you may have a problem.

Strengths: Easy to install
Weaknesses: It doesn't have any weaknesses
Summary: I bought the Modem for an old 400 MHz computer. Spending as little as possible was my goal. But I still wanted to get the best product for the least amount of money. The TRENDware 56Kbps modem was that product. I installed the modem in less than 5 minutes. The modem has worked for me without a problem.

Strengths: A very most excellent product. This has it all, you can answer your phone if you have call waiting and not interrupt your computer experience. Shipping was free!!
Weaknesses: NONE that I can think of.
Summary: This is an excellent product with free shipping and a great buy. It is the best buy that I could find. 10.00 is not bad at all! I would definitely buy this product again. I am extremely happy with this purchase.

Strengths: 1. Cheap price 2. fast delivery (Gateway site)

Weaknesses: not found yet, except the documentation, but this is minor if you consider the price paid for it ($11)
Summary: I purchased this modem to replace a Lucent Tech modem which started to have contact problem at the slot for the incoming telephone line. Got this one because of the price and also because of Gateway's reputation. (If Gateway distribute it, then it is pretty reliable. Plus the waiver of shipping cost is more incentive to buy this modem.)
Installation of the modem is a non-event, or perfect. When connecting, the sound of communicating with the host server is loud and clear (in contrast with the Lucent Tech one). It also is able to negotiate a faster speed-49333 vs 48000bps on my old one. It also comes with other software programs which I have not had the occasion to use them yet.

Strengths: Good modem with data, fax, & voice abilities. Excellent price for such a modem.
Weaknesses: printed quick setup guide that comes with unit not complete enough.
Summary: This is an excellent modem for anybody wanting a 56K v.90 and v.92 modem.
Can't beat the price!I paid only $11.75 delivered to my home via FedEx including state sales tax. (Gateway with free shipping by entering coupon code NOSHIPA)
Before installing use the included CD and print the short USER MANUAL as the included printed quick setup guide is not complete enough.
Finally, the modem will install itself thru Windows not requiring the use of the CD drivers, NOW log onto Windows UPDATE and Windows will find a DRIVER UPDATE for this modem. Select this driver update and Windows will automatically install this newer driver.
Great modem, great price, easy to setup and use.

Strengths: Easy set up, works perfectly. No documentation is neccessary with WinXP.
Weaknesses: None so far. Lack of documentation is really not a problem with WinXP.
Summary: Definitely a bargain. More than worth what I paid. It's used daily, without a hitch so far. Hopefully will continue performing as flawlwessly as it has so far, and I can't see why it wouldn't.

Strengths: Works well, excellent price, quick set up.
Weaknesses: Would have preferred paper hard copy(instead of cd-rom) documentation for additional features.
Summary: Works very well. Replaces U.S. Robotics 56kb x2 v.90 modem which slowed down to a grinding agonizing crawl of 9600kb. Running on P2 300mhz w/ XP. Getting speed of 53.2kb.

Strengths: Very cheap and works like a charm. No problems with the modem to date.
Weaknesses: Product documentation and set-up instructions could be better. But this should not hinder someone from buying this product.
Summary: I purchased the modem for the main reason to be able to intercept incoming phone calls. Documentation that came with the product could be a little better. A quick installation guide comes with the product. Once I fired up the modem on hold application, the modem worked like a charm. With other modems I have has a problem with disconnections. Its been nearly two weeks I have been using this modem and so far not one cut off and not one problem. A breath of fresh air, inexpensive and it works great!!

I ordered this modem on 11-30-03 and it was shippe ...
Strengths: I don't know. I never got it to work.
Weaknesses: It never worked for me. My computer never could find it.
Summary: I ordered this modem on 11-30-03 and it was shipped out on 12-01-03. I finally received it on 12-09-03. I installed it on 12-10-03 but my computer never could find it. My phone worked but it would not load with my wWindows 98 2nd edition. I returned it and received another one, but it did the same thing. I have read all the information and it should be compatible with my OS.

Strengths: Easy installation. Great Price.
Weaknesses: Not sure yet have not had it very long but so far everything is fine.
Summary: 2004-01-16 12:10:26 Modem works great. Followed easily understood instructions and worked first time. No problems and how could you beat the price. Other modems may have more features, but this one does just fine for me.

Summary: Following instruction you can install it easily. I was surprised that the Gateway's shipping was too fast and the quaulity is also satisfactory. It is much better than the modem I used before with a unbelivable low price. Recommended
