Strengths: Pioneer quality, great sound, many features, plays MP3'S.
Weaknesses: Many features, you have to know the menus really well to adjust on the fly.
Summary: I purchased this unit to replace an existing Pioneer stereo in my Jeep. I have always been a Pioneer fan and when I saw this unit with the ability to play MP3'S I couldn't resist. Installation was a breeze and the stereo sounded great! There are so many options and settings that you really have to read the manual to find all of the settings. I was already familiar with Pioneer car stereos so the learning curve was shorter. The stereo plays MP3'S just fine and you can fit a lot of them on one CD. The display is easy to read and the controls are well placed - if you know the menus. I found myself always tweaking the settings and this can be a chore while driving so I replaced this stereo with my older Pioneer and gave it to my son. He is thrilled with the sound and all of the features of this stereo. He had this thing figured out within an hour and couldn't be happier.

Overall, I love everything about this stereo but it is not for somebody who likes to adjust the settings often while driving. Whatever happened to just bass and treble!

Strengths: Excellent sound quality at all frequencies. Very good bass response through coaxil speakers. Excellent assortment of sound customizing tools. Three level loudness control.
Weaknesses: None detected so far, but you must read the manual thoroughly to get the most out of this unit
Summary: I originally purchased an Alpine CDM9803 to replace my existing old Blaupunkt unit in my 1983 Porsche 911 Cabriolet(four Infinity Kappa speakers with 50rmsX4 amp). I just couldn't get enough bass response out of it to compete with the road and engine noise. After some research, I decided to go with the Pioneer DEH-P5500MP, and wow, what a difference. This thing sounds great, with plenty of distortion-free bass, even at fairly high levels. I didn't want to sqeeze in a subwoofer, so this really is what I was looking for. This one is a keeper.
