Strengths: Works well with all apple Hardware & software. All the features work and fast.
Weaknesses: The auto buttons on the machine work only with Windows OS. But you really don't need them.
Summary: This is my second brother all-in-one. I had an mFC-6800 and went through 2 drums, which is about 50K pages. In place of buying another drum, I shelled out a few bucks more to get the latest model. (Drums and Toner are expensive, but they are cheaper than inkjets in the longhaul. Many non-apple devices do not always work as well as adverstised or have limited features to their windows counterparts. Brother has made all of it's operations work very well in the MacOS environment. Great for my small office needs.

Strengths: Compact size, Auto document feeder
Weaknesses: none so far.
Summary: This Brother MFC 7420 All in one machine can be a very nice choice for somebody who look for the All in one machine for their home use or office use.

It has all the functions such as Fax, Copier, Scanner, Printer.

Its toner price is reasonable. Highly recommended!!

Strengths: Very fast speed, good quality
Weaknesses: No scanning firmware for Vista OS yet
Summary: Only minor problem which I have right now is that brother has not release scanner firmware for vista so I have to use vista built in software which is fine. But by doing it output is limit either jpeg or Tiff files. I want output as PDF file. In that can it is kind of 2 step process.

Ist scan as jpeg, then import it in windows then make a pdf file. Does not take that long just a minor issue.

Strengths: Prints fast, laser ink (I didn't need color) so less water-soluble, actually faxes (my Lexmark x73 never did), so easy to setup, autofeed tray, auto feed slot
Weaknesses: If I had to think of something, I guess it would be that the auto-feed slot, it will grab the paper once you insert it a certain amount, so make sure the paper is not inserted at an angle.
Summary: Wow. I hated my Lexmark x73 because of many problems I won't bore you with. So, I researched and found this wonderful unit refurbished with a good warrantee so I bought it with a credit card that matches the warrantee and feel secure. I read many reviews on both amazon, pricegrabber, and other sites and was convinced of its quality.

The fact it faxes is just an added bonus. It prints crisply. I don't need it to print photos, so I don't care about this missing that aspect. I do however print resumes with a photo on them (I am a singer) and with the high quality print, it's fantastic. The scan quality is wonderful for my music notation programs. I love that I can use both 300 dpi AND toner-save function for when I truly need something just drafted. It is still very legible, just pixillated.

Another possible negative aspect is that the lid can't be removed such as with that aforementioned All-in-One. However upon researching and viewing many models and brands in the store and online, I think this is a thing of the past now.

I read how much money one saves with laser vrs inkjet, and I am awed. I found the warning notice quite humorous, that I will "only" get around 10,000 prints from the starter-drum, and something like 1500 from the starter ink cartridge. I am not using this industrially, so I feel confident this will last me a long time. In fact, when I used ink jet printers, sometimes I would use them quite infrequently and in turn, the inks would actually dry out and be unsalvagable. At about $20-$30 a pop, what a waste.

In summary, I needed a reliable unit that could do a lot of things and was a good value. I feel very confident that this will continue to impress me for years to come. I highly recommend it.

Strengths: Super easy to install 30 minutes. Not too noisy. Easy to program.
Weaknesses: Not had long enough to really find those. However, not overly thrilled about LCD display.
Summary: We are really happy with the machine. Print quality is great. Faxes are fast. Have not tried scanning. I was able to manual feed my personal checks with no problems and they look great. Takes up less space than the Brother MFC3820CN. I thought I would have serious problems with the non existent manual feel tray but it was not bad. All in all a great value for the price.

Strengths: All in one functions, look and feel
Weaknesses: Not easy to adjust print resolution
Summary: Here is my review for the sister model of MFC7420 (7820N), the only difference in 7820N is better scan resolution & Networking capabilities, the rest is the same, so my review should apply to MFC 7420 as well.

WoW ! This must be the best MFC out there. I have owned several canon, hp, lexmark MFC, photo printers, fax machines etc. This machine is it. All you need is this MFC & a separate photo printer. you are all set.

Strengths: Great print quality, cheap to buy and use, small footprint. Picks up faxes well from non-dedicated phone line. Handles different types of media well, even single checks placed in main tray.
Weaknesses: Manual feeder takes practice to get envelopes to feed straight. Occasional paper jam. Top feeder will pull two pages together occasionally when making copies of multi-page documents.
Summary: I bought one for my home office a year ago and have almost 10,000 pages on the counter. I was so impressed that I bought two more for my business, one of which is already over 10,000 pages. We regularly use all functions except scan and this little workhorse has never let us down. It's cheap to run, especially if you buy ink and drums online (save about 35% from retail thanks to pricegrabber!). Set up is easy and the controls are intuitive even for my non-tech savvy staff. Definite recommend for the home or small office with the following caveat: I have minimal experience with similar products to compare it to and I can't speak to the quality of the color scanner as I've never used it.

Strengths: Very easy to set up and use.
Weaknesses: Noticed a foul smell coming from the demo model on the showroom floor when it was running. My unit is fine though.
Summary: This is an awesome printer, copier, and scanner. Very easy to use and the software was easy to install on my Windows XP machine. Great value, very dependable. I use it extensively at home. I got rid of my flatbed scanner, fax machine, two laser printers and inkjet printer after purchasing this unit!!

Strengths: It does what it claims it can do.
Weaknesses: Too many functions in a tight package.
Summary: For the price I paid, I didn't expect a machine I could put to the test. Rather, I have everything I need for my home office in the footprint of a small laser. I give it a firm nod and a bold thumbs up. There were features where I could have the fax incorporated with my desktop, but that was overkill. Prints nicely and quickly. Brother, I will never buy a $50 HP ink cartridge, that's for sure.

Strengths: Evrything is reliable and easy to install. No equivalent for this price
Weaknesses: Scanner colors quality
Summary: I had many HP printers before and I was getting used to have problems every time I needed to use HP printers.

Now, that I have the MFC-7420, I do not cross my finger before each operations. Everything works fine and the installation was very very easy.

2 Star Review Brother MFC 7420
Strengths: Good quality faxes, light copying, and BW printing. A little expensive for heavy BW printing.
Weaknesses: Scanner for color not very good.
Summary: I have a home office and do a lot of faxes and some copying. I bought this one so I could get rid of my scanner - ust one more piece of equipment I didn't need. I am not happy with the color scanning though. When I print with another (very good) laser color, the resolution is highly reduced and comes out very pixulated. It would not work to scan to your computer and print pictures, for instance. I'm sorry I got rid of my scanner. I could have paid a lot less for a regular fax/copier. I would not purchase another one. Not a good value at all.
