horrible LG fridge - horrible LG customer service
Strengths: sleek, fits unconventional spaces
Weaknesses: defective compressor,
high pitched noise,
wasteful space
Summary: 2009-10-15 11:43:38 This LG refrigerator was purchased less than 2 weeks ago. It makes a high pitch noise about once an hour or when making ice. The noise is deafeningly loud and wakes everyone up at night, even though it lasts only 3-5 seconds. The sad part is that the warranty is covered by LG for the 1st year, however the service company PC Richards partners with (Aid Audio) doesn't wish to publicly acknowledge this model has a faulty compressor. They admit this model has serious defects and are willing to bring a service tech back to our home to install working parts. The manager from the service company that I corresponded with, Todd, confessed THIS MODEL has serious flaws but was unwilling to have that stated in writing.
The Aid Audio service tech told me it was a rusty motor and a freezer sensor that had to be changed, but then the manager Todd phoned me and said it was actually the compressor. He was not willing to have this documented so I could exchange it for another fridge of the same model. Todd said I should avoid this model all together but said he could arrange this situation with PC Richard & Son via a phone call rather than a written report. I asked him 3 times to put it in writing, but he refused. This was a clear & obvious red flag. Next step is to file a complaint with the BBB.
UPDATE:
PC Richard & Son has honored an exchange. They say their service vendor (Aid Audio) was passing the buck and blaming the fridge model instead of attempting to diagnose the issue. Nonetheless, the fridge is still here in my kitchen whistling in that high pitched tone as loud as ever. I've already agreed to have another model shipped.
