Strengths: Custome configurations and clear-clean sound
Weaknesses: Remote control
Summary: The reciever is very easy to program and does support a wide variety of speaker configurations.
The "night mode"- which allows two compression modes (high and medium) that limit program peaks allows me to watch movies without constantly turning up and down the volume so I do not bother my neighbors - is a great feature.
The smart remote that comes with the reciever is great except for two problems:
1. I cannot program macros. No matter how much I have tried, I cannot get a power-up/down macro to work.
2. When you are using a particular input, the remote control constantly returns to AVR control. In other words, if you are trying to watch a TV program recorded on your VCR and try to fast forward through commercials, you must punch the VCR input select button on the remote for every command you are sending to the VCR.
Most remote controls will stay in the particular input control mode until you change modes. This is EXTREMLY frustrating!!!
There is a punch through setting that will allow you to control your VCR channel select button so you don't have to keep hitting the VCR input select button when changing channels, but be careful - if you make a mistake, you may have to reset the remote and re-enter all previous commands.
