Strengths: Multi-Format solves nearly all burning challenges
Weaknesses: Does not support RAM disks in cartridges
Summary: I bought this drive for its ability to handle DVD+R and RAM disks. It does this quickly determining the disk type within 30 seconds. It also handled scratched CD's with ease, and also DVD-R. I have not tried using double layer disks since they are too expensive at this time. Setup is instantaneous in Windows XP. So far, burning 20 assorted DVD's and RAM disks has been 100% perfect with no

coasters.Highly recommended

2 Star ReviewGreat Burner ........until it dies a quick death
Strengths: Will burn many formats with ease
Weaknesses: after LAST session of burning 6 dvds in a row, it died
Summary: 2005-07-11 15:03:55 My supplier pulled these from their shelves after MANY returns. All had a similar experience. After a while this burner just dies. The last disc it burned will be great just like all the others, then all of a sudden its dead. Great when working...............

Strengths: Wide range of media compatibility. Good burner. See Below
Weaknesses: None
Summary: 2005-06-28 21:34:15 Works well with the following media: Ricojpn r01 (dvd+r) at 4x, maxell 02 (+r) at 8x, maxell 03 (-r) at 6x, cmc mag e1 (+r) at 8x, fujifilm 03 at 8x. Overspeeding, however, often results in unreadable discs. This burner burns a full dvd at 8x in 8 minutes. My BenQ would take 9 minutes and NEC, 10 minutes. So far, I am very pleased with this burner. Don't have any 16x media to try, but it can do a full burn in 5:15 s, which is faster than BenQ and NEC.

Strengths: Works well in SCO UNIX Environment
Weaknesses: 1 in 10 fail after short time
Summary: I have tried several different brands of DVD Burners in the SCO UNIX environment and this LG burner works the best. If you are using a DVD for backup purposes in a UNIX environment, this one is my recommendation.
