3 Star ReviewYou have to have patience with the learning proces ...
Strengths: Large storage. Probably the largest for this kind of recorders. You can get high quality DVD recording from your old home VHS videos. Depending on settings, even better than the source!
Weaknesses: 1. The learning process is very tedious. 2. Most DVD-R discs are NOT compatible with this machine. 3. The recorded DVD-R can not be played in certain DVD players.
Summary: You have to have patience with the learning process. The instruction manual is elaborate but simple. If you really care about taking advantage of ALL of this machines's features, you must curb your instinct to go straight to recording. Allow atleast five six hours for reading, then record a sample segment and keep experimenting various settings and creation of chapters etc with it for a few days before you get to serious recording. Actually recording onto DVD-RAM or DVD-R discs is as simple as using a VHS recoder. The process of recording can also be a lot of fun, if you care to use all of its features.

Strengths: large 80gb hard drive, many editing features and best of all manually adjustable sampling rate when recording. also auto or manual chapter create and thumbnail picture create
Weaknesses: is not progressive scan
Summary: i already had the panasonic e-20 dvd recorder and a replay

hard disc recorder (30gb capacity) in my system. i bought the rd-x2 so that it could take the place of these two

machines while giving me more hard drive to store programs.

with the rd-x2 i was able to edit out commercials, create

chapters where ever i wanted and also create thumbnails of my choosing for the chapters.a really nice feature is it's ability to allow you to manually set the speed or quality

of the recording in small increments. you can also choose

between (3) levels of audio quality D1, D2 & L-PCM.

I would say the only drawback to this machine is that it is

very involved in getting to know how to use all the features

but if you don't mind reading thru the best instruction manual (I have ever seen) it will pay you back with a great

deal of satisfaction. for the video geek (that's me!) it was truely a labor of LOVE!!! this is your future and the future is now!
