Strengths: Sleek, compact, light weight, picture clarity, swivel screen, battery life
Weaknesses: Buttons on screen instead on base, no feature to strap onto car head rest.
Summary: Hi,
We bought this unit to keep our 20 month old occupied on long trips. We used it on a 6 hour flight from East Coast to Vancouver recently and it was a life saver. She was occupied most of the way and we could even get some shut eye.
The picture is very clear, typical of all Sony TVs and displays. The unit is very easy to use and one does not need to read the manual. The Swivel screen came in handy as we could turn it around and prevent our 20 month old from messing with the dvd tray. However the buttons on the screen were still a target for her and we had to often intervene to bring the movie back on.
The unit is light weight enough to carry in a back pack or a laptop bag. The battery lasts for abt 6 hrs on full charge. I wish the battery was better integrated into the unit like in a laptop instead being an add-on at the bottom. That does add to the thickness of the unit, but not so much that it is an irritant.
So far we have used it on a flight and in a restaurant (did you think of that!!) so that we could eat peacefully. Now I want to use it in the car on our next long drive. But I am not sure how I will harness it to the head rest as it does not provide any feature to do that. Maybe someone has done that successfully and can share the idea.
Net-net good value for the money spent. I bought it from J&R in NYC and they did a price match and sold the unit for $169 incl. shipping and no taxes. They promptly sent it by next day delivery. Great service!
