Strengths: small size, great video and images, 8G built in hard disk, SDHC flash memory
Weaknesses: noisy during recording
Summary: The real size of this camcorder is much smaller than it appears on the picture. That is because it uses hard disk or flash memory to record so no mechanics needed for a tape. It fits in your hand. Check it out in your local stores. You will be amazed by its size. It's much smaller than the traditional miniDV camcorders.

Recording and taking still images is easy. You get high quality videos and images. We recorded some flowers around our home. The color is sharp and we realized our home is even nicer than we thought.

The battery indicator is helpful and accurate. The battery itself is acceptable with one charge.

I think the 8G built in hard disk is a bonus, not a necessity. You can always use SDHC flash memory, but I figured out 8G SDHC costs more than the built-in 8G hard disk, at least for now. That is why I bought FS-10, not FS-100 without hard disk. FS-20 has 16G hard disk, but the extra hard disk costs more than buying a SDHC with the same capacity.

It got a 37x opt zoom, but the camcorder was marked x48 Advanced Zoom. Canon is saying their advanced zoom is as good as optical zoom. I couldn't tell the difference.

It comes with a remote you can use to record or play. The remote itself is thin and small, not sure how useful it is. I owned a miniDV camcorder with a remote, but I rarely used it.

The only problem I have with this camcorder is the noise during recording. You won't notice it if you are outside, but in a quiet room, you will hear the noise during recording and playback. It is not as bad as a miniDV camcorder, but I really expect virtually no noise for a camcorder not using tape.

Overall, I am very happy with this camcorder, especially the size and the fact it uses SDHC.

Strengths: Compact; Well-designed; Long Battery; Price
Weaknesses: Modest Video Quality
Summary: This is exactly what I was looking for. I bought this as a replacement for my Panasonic MiniDV camcorder. The video quality is roughly the same, however because I can adjust many more settings on this, I end up shooting better video than I could have with the Panasonic. I like the size of the camera. It fits nicely in my hand. The basic controls are easy to find and use. The LCD panel is bright and easy to see on a sunny day. The battery seems to have a reasonably long charge. The flash memory means no moving parts except for the lens. I added a 4GB memory card and I have hours of video between dumps to my computer. Also it starts and shutdown quickly. Enjoy it!!!
