Strengths: Extremely quiet, great features especially "Add a garment", control lock very useful in case one has kids, great DVD based user instructions
Weaknesses: Very heavy - so better get your leveling right the first time, No Load Size Setting.
Summary: 2005-09-26 09:05:24 I will be updating this review as I get to know this washer better. That is a key with this washer. There are a lot of features and one needs to explore the working of these settings and find the best that work for you.

First let me talk about the leveling part of this washer. Due to the high spin cycle speeds of this washer one should level this washer to the best of his/her ability the very first time they install it. Make sure the location you choose for the washer is the final resting place of the washer. Mine was levelled but we moved the washer slightly to accommodate space for a vacuum cleaner on the other side of the laundry room. This messed up the leveling and then it was a major pain to insert a 2 x 4 underneath the washer to level the front legs again since the washer is HEAAAAAVY. (195 lbs). You can also level it without the 2 X 4 but you need to be handy with tools and you can potentially destroy the plastic hexagonal legs since you will have to use a wrench to raise or lower the washer.

I have not used the HE detergent that is recommended so far since I had 2 "ALL" clear liquid detergents gallons left over after the demise of my last washer. So far they have worked fine for me. You have to get used to the idea of using about a third less than usual (which is a kind of mental block).

The washer cleans really well with very little water left in the clothes after the spin cycle is done. We have also purchased a matching GEW9250PW duet dryer and it goes well with this washer so I recommend getting both. Dryer is not Made in Germany like the washer. It is assembled in USA. I will review the dryer later.

I haven't installed the pedestal since it was destroying my budget but you if you are thinking of getting a pedestal you have to get it with the washer since you will definitely hurt your back if you try to install it yourself later. Did I mention this thing is HEAAAAAVY.

Overall the introductory DVD presentation is very well made and one can get a good idea of the controls from it. Since it has a top slide out drawer for detergent/softener/bleach (3 compartments in the drawer) one does not have to run to the washer to add softener which is a blessing. The dispenser drawer is also self flushing (washer cleans it after usage) so one does not have to worry about stains setting in after prolonged usage of the dispenser drawer.

The add-a-garment feature is great that allows you to toss in those missed items (like that other sock that your son just forgot to put it in the laundry basket). I am still trying to figure out the change the cycle feature. I changed the cycle once from "whitest white" to "Normal" and the washer seemed to drain all the water (along with the detergent) before commencing the new cycle. I will try it once more and post my updated review. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions and I will answer them to the best of my ability.

2 Star ReviewWhirlpool Duet
Strengths: Can handle large volume of clothes
Weaknesses: Cannot use bleach in washer as it drops out directly onto clothes and MANY torn clothes!!
Summary: Purchased Duet washer and dryer in late 2004; have two young girls, who wear lots of white clothing and constantly have stains in clothes. Cannot use bleach in washer as it drops out directly onto clothes, undiluted. Thank goodness, I kept my last top loader in the basement so that I can run stained clothes thru with belach! At least once a month, find clothes which have torn in the Whirlpool (which I know is not from the use of bleach;lol. Extremely unsatisfied; the only saving grace to this machine is the large load that can be done at once!!

1 Star ReviewWhirlpool duet
Strengths: handles large blankets
Weaknesses: bleach is pouring onto clothes before machine is started and I am using the recommended 1/3 cup
Summary: I purchased a Whirlpool Duet and it ruined 500.00 worth of clothes. I did a batch of whites than I put a batch of dark clothes in. When I opened the dispenser drawer to add the detergent I noticed the bleach was still in the drawer, it never dispensed for the last load. I closed the drawer and opened the door to take out the dark clothes and noticed the bleach was running onto my clothes. I stopped using bleach but still I was getting bleach spots on all my clothes. I showed the repairman how the bleach was running out of the drawer into the washer even before the machine was started. I returned that machine and purchased another but that one did the same thing. Whirlpool is no help at all. Takes weeks before they send someone out.

Strengths: Big washing capasity, convenient access, ability to put a duet drier on top
Weaknesses: Easily scratched while transporting
Summary: The duet washer is one the best washers I've ever used. It's big enough to wash the entire blanket. When I had no drier I used to roll this washer back and forth to my kitchen (I used special castings). Later I purchased a gas drier and put it on top of my washer. I'm fully satisfied with my purchase.

Strengths: It does not use a lot of water.
Weaknesses: None so far.
Summary: This washer is simply fantastic. If it used any less water if would be a true dry cleaner! I thought the water was going to come up to half the window but it doesn't. It never reaches the glass at all during the fill. The washer is easy to use and it allows you to over-ride the default settings for each program if you so desire. So far I have only used it with the new "he" (high-efficiency)detergent and it worked great. The washer is very heavy... we heard that it has cement blocks in it that one needs to secure with bolts (included) if and when one decides on moving it. Another bonus is that is that the washer is so quiet. I love the fact that you can see the clothes thru the window. There are some front-loaded washers without a window but I would strongly recommend to get one with a window! It is more fun to watch than TV these days!

Strengths: Quiet, depenable, large loads, saves on water and energy
Weaknesses: none
Summary: Our new Duet allows us to wash less loads and improve the life of our cloths. The quiet operation allows me to sllep at night as I am a light sleeper. Our old regilar washer and dryer was so loud.

Strengths: Quiet, simple, has pause if you need anything, or forgot to add more. Large room
Weaknesses: Heavy if you missed level on a floor. No other issues
Summary: Just replaced my old Maytag. After working for 15 years, I guess I should definetely and will save energy with EnergySavers. The room in a washer for clothes much bigger that I had - at least twice. Very quiet. Simple instructions. Had issues with vibration on at the end with low level rotation. Use level, and adjust legs of washer. After that, works as they advertised.

1 Star ReviewPiece of S%$$#
Strengths: It is a $1000 shelf!!
Weaknesses: Not being able to wash in my own since the thing doesn't even work!!
Summary: This washer is a piece of junk, do not buy one you will be very disappointed with it. My has been out of service for a month and it is only 14 months old!! Four service people have come out to the house, and replaced three parts, and it is still broken!!! And the customer service at Whirlpool? That is an even bigger joke!! They got their money and that is all they care about!! I will never buy anything for them again!!
