Strengths: sound quality, looks
Weaknesses: size, installation
Summary: i use to install stereos so i wanted something with clear sound. found the type R's. installed them and honestly i am impressed. the woofers give a tight and deep bass, the tweeters are crystal clear. only problem i had was fitting them in the car doors (these speakers are 3"s deep and i had to do a boat load of custom fabricating to fit them in my 2002 maxima). but they do need an amp to get the full potential out of these speakers. id sugest running 50rms to each. but they sound awsome just off a headunit. if your willing to do a little work to fit these speakers in, they are VERY worth it. yet they are a bit more pricy than other speakers but thats what clear sound costs.

Strengths: Awesome sound quality
Weaknesses: Poor installation guide
Summary: I installed these in my Golf in some custom home-made kickplate housings (modeled after the QLogic kind), and they sound awesome. Running of my Pioneer deck, they easily handle anything I through at them (rap, acoustic, whatever), and they're powerful enough to allow me to remove my old Sony 6x9's from the back and save some space. I can see how the installation guide could be tricky for some people, but this doesn't have to do with the speakers (and you should be prepared to do some work if you plan of self-installing components anyway). The main speakers give surprisingly decent punch, and the tweeters sound crisp and clear too. Definitely a good purchase, especially for the price.

Strengths: Great sound; versatile installation options
Weaknesses: None I have found
Summary: I was initially debating between these speakers and the kevlar series from Pioneer. Not having a local dealer that stocked the 3-way Pioneers made it impossible to compare the two, but being able to hear how good the Alpines were, I went with them. I had a local shop install them (along with the rest of the system - RF 1694s in the back, an RF 132 center, an Alpine amp, and an Eclipse 5000 head unit) in my '09 Eclipse Spyder. The tweeters snapped nicely into the stock tweeter housings, and a little bit of trimming allowed the 132 to replace the stock center speaker. The 17LSs fit easily into the door, with the included crossovers fitting in above them.

The sound output from these speakers is great - clear and distinct to full volume with very little distortion.

I would highly recommend these to anyone looking to replace their 6.5" speakers (of any brand).
