Strengths: Bright, clear picture with full 1080p resolution. Multiple input ports, good value
Weaknesses: none for me
Summary: After many happy years with a 53" rear projection HD-ready TV, I upgraded to this true LCD HDTV and am very happy with the amazingly bright and crisp images it displays. Having both analog and digital tuners allowed me to see, for the first time, all the HD channels that were available in even my basic cable feed and they have ruined me for watching their standard definition counterparts now.

WIth multiple HDMI and component (along with composite as well) video inputs, there were plenty of options for hooking up equipment. My DVDs, both standard and HD, look amazing as well as the live broadcasts on cable. The blacks are black and the picture so bright it hurts your eyes. Luckily, there are various picture modes to choose from or to customize and optimize to your various needs and preferences. It set up easy. Just a few bolts to attach the stand using the included hex wrench. Hook up an input source and you are watching a magnificent picture at a very reasonable cost (in my case, close to an even grand).

If you don't like the wait of a few seconds after turning it on, you can switch it to the "quick on" setting instead of the power saving default (but even though I'm impatient, i leave it on power saving since I heard the quick on setting takes almost 3/4 as much power as just keeping it on). I also thought the remote would be pre-set to work my Toshiba HD-DVD player but there are no preset DVD controls on the remote (although it looks as if you can program them for any brand). Some people have complained of light bleed through in the corners of their sets, but I have not seen that at all on my set.

Some other features I enjoy are the many picture modes from "native" to "natural" and a few "theatrewide"s in between as well as the ability of the set to auto switch when it detects an aspect ratio change. You can also keep a list of favorite channels or history of channels you've looked through or inputs to switch between that are all accessible via a quick button press and rotating on screen menus. You can custom label the channels or select from a list of pretyped ones. I also appreciate the ability to change frequently needed options like screen mode, input selection and picture size by one remote key rather than many menu and submenu searches.

As for sound, I am using this set in the bedroom and not in the home theatre, so I have not hooked it up to a tuner ore external speakers. As far as the sound from the set speakers it sounds great via optical out or HDMI.

Overall, a great TV for the price, equal to others costing much more.

Strengths: I was very impressed with the picture on this tv and the price and it was very easy to set up, it has a swivel stand which is a great.
Weaknesses: none so far
Summary: I am very impressed with this tv it is simple to use, very easy instructions and it was priced very nicely and the swivel stand it a very nice feature, my tv sits near a outside door and i thought that the reflection from the light coming in the door was going to be a problem however it is not, and it does not have an anti glare screen, so that is very nice. I would recommend this tv to everyone. I am very happy and impressed with it.

Strengths: Gorgeous HD picture! Pleasantly aesthetic bezel & speaker. Easy to use menu system. Nice shortcut buttons on universal remote. Rear cable straps help organize connected cables.
Weaknesses: RF Input points down making it harder to plug in if rear space is limited. SD picture is OK. No headphone jack. No shortcut to change from Antenna to Cable input.
Summary: This is my first LCD TV. So far the overall verdict is awesome. The cons above are more quibbles than real negatives.

Regarding the SD picture, I haven't had too much opportunity to play with the settings... Actually, I haven't changed anything, I'm using it with all the default settings. So it might get better with adjusted settings. I'm comparing it against my old Zenith tube TV which had a very sharp & clear SD picture (but died).

The HD tuner picked up more channels than I expected. The menu system also seems upgradeable. I was also pleasantly surprised to find a very complete, but large, manual (it's in English & French).

Strengths: Fantastic picture, size, weight, connectivity, and variety of adjustments
Weaknesses: The built in audio system leaves a lot to be desired. Its quality of sound and variety of adjustments are fine, however the sound level must be brought up to mid range or higher in order to hear.
Summary: I've had this TV now for over 3 1/2 months and I couldn't be happier. The build quality is fantastic. The amount of HDMI connections (4) is wonderful. There's plenty of other connection possibilities here including a PC connection. There is virtually no glare on the screen at any time and the price is certainly right. I would recommend this TV to anyone.

2 Star ReviewGreat picture (Hi-def) when the TV works
Strengths: Great quality picture and sound when viewing high definition channels. Easy to set up.
Weaknesses: Poor picture quality on standard broadcast. Television video intermittently shuts itself off.
Summary: Purchased this television based on good reviews and am very satisfied with it when it works. However, the intermittent shutoff problem is very frustrating and I am experiencing poor customer service from Toshiba in attempting to get it repaired. Have had it in the shop twice and repairman can't fix it. Toshiba says it will make no more repair attempts until I exchange the cable box to eliminate it as a source of the problem even though the television shut itself off while in the repairshop, too. Toshiba rep is very unprofessional in handling consumer complaints. Although the set works great most of the time, I would not recommend it to anyone only because of the poor customer service I've experienced from Toshiba. I'm quite certain that the set I got is simply a lemon, but Toshiba is unwilling to admit to that.

Strengths: 4 HDMI Inputs, Good Sound, Great contrast and video, good brightness, easy to follow on screen menus, extremely thin by LCD standards, sturdy base,
Weaknesses: VGA and component doesn't do 1080p, optical out does not carry HDMI digital audio,
Summary: I have only had this TV for a few days but have loved it ever since I pulled it out of the the box. The only problems I have had are stated in the weaknesses, I have the older Xbox 360 and the TV will not take 1080p over component or VGA cables so no I must buy the hdmi converter for them. But besides those two minor problems this TV has been great. And it works very well with my Harmony 880.

Strengths: Easy to setup, easy to use controls, great picture with HD service, great value for the price
Weaknesses: poor picture , fuzzy with non-HD broadcast channels
Summary: I am very impressed with the Toshiba REGZA 42RV530U that I recently purchased from Crutchfield.com. It is a very good quality HD set for the price and it has all of the features you need for a low cost yet high quality LCD HD setup. If you do not have an HD dish or cable and do not intend to upgrade to one with the purchase, then do not but this set. The picture quality for non-HD broadcasts is blurry and visually poor quality. For those who have HD service or plan to upgrade this is a great television at a great price with a great view when watching HD programs
