Strengths: Easy to set up, install and use. Cool front panel with blue(on) and red(off) lights
Weaknesses: none
Summary: I got the Zenith DTT900 Digital-To-Analog Converter to extend the life out of my old analog tv set because in 2/09, there will be no more analog channels for tv. It'll all be digital.

This little box was very easy to set up and install. I hooked it up to the tv's rabbit ears, plugged it in and went through the simple setup menus. Within two minutes, I was watching digital tv!!! I got a total of 20 digitally clear channels!!!I'm in the NYC area.

3 Star ReviewDoes what it is supposed to
Strengths: Sturdy construction, wide availability
Weaknesses: No analog pass-through, basic program guide
Summary: 2008-07-30 09:35:20 Check the list of coupon eligible converter boxes, and you'll find a long list of manufacturers that you probably never heard of. Available nationally at Circuit City and Radio Shack, this unit is actually made by LG and is practically identical to the Insignia NS-DXA1 that is sold at Best Buy. The case is made of metal and has plenty of v-shaped slits on the sides and top for ventilation. The program guide only shows what is on now and what will be on next. I am able to pick up 29 channel/subchannels and there are external power and channel up/down buttons (for those times you can't find the remote). Lack of analog pass-through is not a problem once all broadcasts in my area go digital - but some stations in other areas of the country (as well as Canada and Mexico) will be staying analog. This model has been replaced by DTT-901 which DOES have analog pass-through - so look for that one instead. [Edit] Forgot to mention that this is one of the models that TIVO says will be supported. Strengths: Very easy to set up and use.
Weaknesses: Significant delay when changing channels.
Summary: All in all a very good converter but I want one that will provide an electronic programming guide for all channels, not just the one currently being viewed.

Strengths: easy to setup, covered by government's coupon, metal case
Weaknesses: some features of newer models are missing
Summary: This is one of the better converters out there. The other reviewers already covered its advantages. I bought mine because it got good reviews and covered by the government's $40 coupon. I would wait for a newer model, but my coupon was expiring. The remote is not illuminated, doesn't have analog pass-through that newer models have.

Strengths: Works as expected
Weaknesses: None
Summary: Bought this as it was covered by the $40 coupon program and was well reviewed. I was able to get it hooked up with an analog TV in a few minutes. The remote also works fine and the auto scan found all the channels in our area. The number of channels picked up by this box is about the same as the number picked up by a Samsung HDTV tuner DVD recorder we already have.

Strengths: sturdy construction, easy set up
Weaknesses: none
Summary: This product will be needed next February when all tv stations must switch to digital. It is eligible for the government issued $40 coupon to be applied to the purchase price. The great thing is that you can start using the unit now. It pulls in over the air signals from tv stations...for free. It will in some areas get you MORe channels than you get now plus they will be in greater quality.

The unit itself is extremely easy to use and to set up for the first time.It will do a channel scan for you and you can also do a manual one to discover "new" channels as they are being added. The remote is a full function remote plus if you would ever lose it, you can control the channels from the unit itself. You cannot go wrong with this product.

Strengths: Very easy to set up and use. No problem connecting and start using it!
Weaknesses: Not much. Only thing I'd suggest is to have Zenith or Sony publish Universal Remote code for this converter.
Summary: Besides not being able to use a universal remote control for this converter, I don't have any complains!

It is little intimidating at first to set it up, but if you can imagine hooking up a VCR/DVD player, it is not too bad. As soon as I bought this converter box, I connected it to my TV (I now have two of these for 2 TVs).

First connect the antenna to "From Antenna" (your current "rabbit ear" antenna cable to this connection). Second, connect the coaxial cable (with a pin in the middle) that came with the converter "To TV". I found if I use RCA connections (red, white and yellow plugs) to TV, the screen is little bit more clear than the coaxial connection. For this RCA connections, it'll be best to connect to Video 1 (or 2, etc.) on the TV, just like connecting a DVD player or a VCR.

After the connections, turn on the TV to channel 3 (for coaxial) and go through the on-screen setting. That is pretty much it! Enjoy Free TV! Don't have to pay $50/mo for cables! And obviously I highly recommend this!

And just like others, I did my research online. One of the best DTV Converters right now. Price is not too bad either. With the government coupon, it was about $25 including tax (in CA). I'm enjoying all of additional channels now, especially PBS channels.

Strengths: Gets the job done; can power the TV On/Off with the remote.
Weaknesses: Just another remote to add to the collection. Probably just the signal, but man I am missing my favorite channel!! Picture also gets distorted at times (probably also the signal).
Summary: This converter is one of many that you can use the rebate coupon on. After some research, I got this because it seemed to be the best reviewed. I have no real complains, the weaknesses I mention above are probably due to the signal more than anything. I also don't really have anything to compare it to. Hooking it up was a bit tricky - didn't realize I had to set the default channel, but once I figured that out it was pretty straight forward.

3 Star ReviewZenith Converter Box
Strengths: Easy setup. Simple instructions.
Weaknesses: No signal. Limited digital channels
Summary: Bought the box and plugged in. Followed the directions on the screen and it said no channels found. Called my cable company and they said I was getting digital feed. Returned the product and replaced it & finally works now. Quality is mediocre but definately less distortion and artifacts. Occassional pixelation from digital feed. Overall a cheap box especially with the government rebates to meet the 2009 requirements. I am using it as a tuner for my projector and it works for not spending too much money.

Strengths: Receive Digital signal good
Weaknesses: None
Summary: 2008-05-03 13:12:41 I purchased this converter box at Circuit City with the Government's coupon and only cost me $25.00 tax included.

I couldn't be more happy with it. I am very suprise that my rabbit ears antena works with it. Receive digital channels loud and clear. Very basic remote control to turn

the TV on/off. The box is nice looking metal box and is very small footprint.

Strengths: Amazing picture! And, it looks good, too. Easy to install. Resizes the image properly.
Weaknesses: It's hard to find.
Summary: I did my homework and apparently what this baby does so well ain't all that easy to accomplish. First, it's very easy to set up. It resizes the image to fit the screen properly AND look correct -- not all brands do a great job with that from what I've read. Some squeeze the picture -- most of those Hollywood babes could become invisible! The digital broadcast image is clearer than cable or satellite. But, living more than 20 miles from the broadcasters, the old rabbit ears (inside antenna) doesn't get a strong enough signal. A weak signal with digital means no picture -- not a snowy one. It's either crystal clear or blank. We did get better reception with this than we did with analog. It just requires moving the antenna precisely. BTW -- most stations now offer one to four sub-channels, along with their regular one. I highly recommend this.

2 Star ReviewWorks average not as expected
Strengths: Easy installation Digital Signal quality average
Weaknesses: Lack of more features higher price
Summary: Actually I want to buy the other model but its not available in the store and then I brought this expecting its great product compare to the other model. But my expectation for this product was wrong.

Strengths: easy to set up, easy to use, easy to program remote
Weaknesses: remote only programs to turn on tv
Summary: This DTV box is great for the price. If you have the government coupon, you can pick this up for 24.07 after tax where I live. The remote is easily programmable to turn on your current TV (although it does not work with some TVs, it will work on most). The remote will not control your TV other than to power it on and off. Installation is simple. The coaxial cable and video cables are supplied in the box. All you have to do is connect the coaxial cable from your antenna to the box and box to the TV or connect the video cable from the box to the TV. Installation truly only takes a couple minutes. Oh and the remote comes with batteries!

Strengths: Very clear picture, better than the old analog picture. Simple, menu driven setup
Weaknesses: Inability to control TV power with remote.
Summary: The remote works fine but does not seem to be able to turn my admittedly old Panasonic off and on. Looks as if I will need to hang onto the old remote to control the power to the TV. That is not such an inconvenience to get years more life out of what is still a fine TV.

The channel seek feature found some channels I did not know existed.

Strengths: Great reliable compact product Easy set up
Weaknesses: short plug-in wires
Summary: I purchased the Zenith converter from circuit city. It cost around 25 dollars with the 40 dollar coupon card from the government.

Hooking up the box was fairly simple for an old timer like me. Plug in the box, plug in the antenna-in cable and then plug in the to-tv cable. Thats it!. Setting up the menus was extremely simple. I have the box connected to an antenna on the top of my roof. I am picking up around 34 channels(few are duplicates..ie, 2 channel 5's and 9's but these can be deleted). I'm surprised that i can pick up digital channels from New Jersey!(i'm in brooklyn).

This is a great product and I'm recommending it to all my friends and family.
