Acer TravelMate 8104 Notebook

Great buy for the money

Strengths: Gently curved keyboard makes typing easier. Battery life is better than expected. Fast! Lots of room for everything. Not too heavy.

Weaknesses: Speakers are poor and sound like a tin can. Buttons to turn blue tooth and wireless on and off are in the front of the laptop. These are bumped easily. Cord gets in the way of the DVD slot opening

Summary: As a website designer, I needed a laptop that would handle a heavy graphic load. As a homeschool mom, I needed something VERY portable. The ACER Travelmate 8104 is a dream come true! The best part was its affordability!

The other thing I liked was that ACER didn't come with a bunch of junk programs already loaded. I don't need AOL or Earthlink and all the other programs loaded by a Dell or Gateway system. It's nice to choose what goes onto a clean hard drive.

Great machine

Strengths: Excellent performer, nice 15" display. I needed a laptop with lots of processing power and a large hard drive. This machine "fit the bill." Not the lightest, but not the heaviest, either.

Weaknesses: Poor support for Linux, otherwise a great machine.

Summary: I'm data data systems developer who mainly uses Linux. Acer disdains their Linux customers, won't do a thing for us. Linux was thus difficult to install. ezdoc doesn't work with Linux, either.

Superior PCI-Express graphics for laptop - excelle ...

Strengths: Superior to practically every laptop in almost every way - good value - comparable Powerbook, Sony and Dell models cost 50+% more while offering less features

Weaknesses: Sound quality average for laptop due to speaker positions at front 1 4-pin 400 mbps Firewire connector - no 6 pin (more standard) or later 800 mbps firewire connector - no CF memory slot for images

Summary: Superior PCI-Express graphics for laptop - excellent output options including s-video digital DVI etc. Features added by manufacturer work well with little if any degradation. Needs better sound speaker quality. Thermal management is good but a few hotspots on case need eliminating including track pad - air flow is relatively low and noise level consequently quite low being almost inaudible. Heavy thin battery at far edge of case gives a "balance problem" - makes laptop feel heavier than it is and makes it harder to handle. Power charger/supply is compact and works well. Unconventional keyboard has excellent feel. Full 1 Gbytes memory configuration (no spare slot) meets most requirements but makes it relatively expensive to upgrade for those needing more memory.

My favorite laptop overall offering superior all round peformance - along with Apple PowerBook. Needs audio at "Powerbook quality level" offering fuller more open sound. Very good value for a "high-end" laptop configuration - practical alternative to those few other comparable models offered at premium prices.

This is a brilliant machine. I was shopping for an ...

Strengths: Beautiful looking machine, very fast, Excellent screen fantastic graphics, can multitask very well very good keyboard, surprisingly good battery life, excellent wireless connectivity.. cool!

Weaknesses: No external volume control

Summary: This is a brilliant machine. I was shopping for an all-singing all-dancing laptop for playing games, doing calculations and all round entertainment. The cheapest I had seen was $3200, however when i saw this machine with its top range graphics card, fast mobile processor, and very high resolution screen all for $2200 I was sold.

On first view, I found it to be a very well designed machine, with the curved keyboard and a also well made, with a good solid feel. To push this machine I started a calculation (in Gaussian03W for those interested) then started to play Unreal Tournament 2004. Even on the highest resolution setting (1680 x 1050) and high texture settings, the game still ran quickly without a single glitch or hang for hours. Impressive or what?!

This is simply the best machine of its price range available at the moment today!

Breathtaking

Strengths: A speedster thia laptop is.It really pampers its user with its grid vista-smart card and fab graphics engine.J the thing for multitasking.Excellent bluetooth and wi-fi just got better.

Weaknesses: Cannot pick holes in this one beautiful machine especially that it easily quakifies as an all-in-one machine

Summary: Been dying to have it.

It makes me so proud.

It does just everything.

Highly competitive price.

Great buy.Watch dvds and surf in style.

Great value for money.
