Strengths: good strength good signal all over my house
Weaknesses: pricey three times the price of a "average router"
Summary: good signal all over my house, but it is expensive.

HORRIBLE CD for setup, great customer support and website.

Had to go online in order to download the configuration software via by OTHER router so that is a pain. but once up, runs well and seamlessly.

Strengths: Security is very nice compared to older routers and the Range is great 108 MPS from downstairs.
Weaknesses: The setup takes a little longer than most routers, due to advanced security and it is a little pricey.
Summary: This is one of the best routers I have owned. One of the reviews said that the antenna's break easily, I don't know what he does with his routers; antenna's seem very sturdy as long as you don't throw the unit around the house. The thing to remember with this router is that the farther away from the router the better your speed is, within reason of course. Another thing to note is that I am using a SRX card in my laptop, which is why I am getting that speed (108 MPS). I have another laptop with built in wireless and I still get a steady 54 MPS and my XBOX live wireless unit gets a steady 54 MPS.

Strengths: Easy setup & admin, long range wireless connections with excellent signal strength, easy firmware upgrade to get WPA2 encryption, True MIMO speed or SRX, Improves performance of non-SRX 11g
Weaknesses: High price, Missing some basic features (ie. content filtering, parental controls, QoS and VLANs), No manual included, had to download PDF off website, Reduced Non-SRX STA throughput in mixed WLANs.
Summary: The speed vs. Range compared to standard 11g seems superior to any other technology. Great looks and an unusual three-antenna arrangement, to help increase signal distance.

The WRT54GX's browser-based configuration tool offers access to all of the standard Wi-Fi router settings, plus a few nice extras. The configuration tool lets you set up MAC address filters, allowing or denying connections from specific computers based on their hardware, or MAC, addresses. You can also use the configuration tool to adjust WEP and WPA settings. The tool gives you opportunities to keep close tabs on incoming data packets through an SPI firewall and to open up a VPN tunnel through the firewall. Finally, you can use the configuration tool to block users' access to specific Web sites by listing the URLs for those sites.

I'm a big fan of Linksys and this was the perfect upgrade to my BEFSR41 router to now add wireless to my home network at blazing speeds.

Strengths: Distance, Strength, Speed
Weaknesses: supposedly, compatiblity with other brands
Summary: I have one of these routers, and the SRX card that matches it and I'm overwhelmingly impressed, I tried every combination of cards, and routers that I could find in any local store, to get coverage from one building to another 200 feet away and covered in aluminum siding. As soon as I plugged it in, not only could I see the access point in the other building, I saw signals from 10 blocks away, and the signal of my router is always over 60% I'm thrilled....

Strengths: - Excellent range - Very configurable - Stable
Weaknesses: - Ugly - No static allocations
Summary: I've tried MIMI routers from dlink, netgear, belkin, and, now linksys. I have to say that, apart from the dlink, which sucked, they all performed well, with both range and throughput substantially improved to my generic 802.11a/b/g mini-pci card. The only reason I'm hanging on to the wrt54gx as opposed to the others is the extra configurability. The numerous choices about firewall configuration, port triggering, etc., are really nice. If you don't need that, though, you might consider the netgear wpn824 (except that, as of this writing, the wpn824 port triggering and static alloation features don't work well).

- Down side of the wrt54gx: 1) It's irritating that it doesn't support static allocation of dhcp addresses by MAC ID. You can work around this by doing static allocation on the machines themselves, but it make management harder. 2) It's pretty ugly. Not too much of a problem if you can hide it somewhere, I guess, but the netgear is nicer-looking, and even the Belkin is at least bland.

Strengths: It definitely has a wider range and stronger signal than my previous wireless router.
Weaknesses: None so far.
Summary: The router was easy to connect and worked flawlessly from the word go. I have good reception all over our house compared to just next door with my old one. The signal seems steady and consistently strong. No fluctuation here. It was a little more money but well worth the extra expense.

Strengths: Signal strength and signal quality
Weaknesses: Price ($150), double the price of a regular G router
Summary: After setting up the router, which was very simple, I found that I was amazed by how far the signal would actually go. When compared to my previous router (WRT54G - Same, but without SRX, just wireless G) I have about 200% more coverage area. The signal is much higher quality (does not drop the signal) and really does not seem to be bothered by walls or different floors. An excellent product that really does what it claims.

Strengths: Security and range.
Weaknesses: Setup can be a struggle when upgrading form older router.
Summary: Although it took me a couple of hours to set up, I think it was because of the old router and having to change to the new. Love the WPA and WPA2 as well as the antenna strength. Works well with my MAC, PC and Laptop.

1 Star ReviewI am pretty disappointed with this router. I paid ...
Strengths: * good speed at close range
Weaknesses: * antenna breaks easily * doesn't work well with my existing 802.11g clients * doesn't have a PCI or USB adapter for my desktop
Summary: I am pretty disappointed with this router. I paid $200 for it expecting for it to make sure I got my whole house covered. I have a large house and my router is in the main floor. My current G Router didn't give me coverage upstairs in several rooms. I've installed several wireless routers before, but with this product, I still needed to call tech support go through the whole process like 3 times - I'm sure those who've never installed will have a heck of a time. Then, when I did get it connected, my desktop upstairs still wouldn't connect. I only got a benefit on higher speed when I'm nearby. My Centrino laptop, didn't get any boost at all - pretty disappointing. I figure the whole thing is proprietary, and you have to have Linksys SRX adapter & router to get any benefit. But they only have a PC Card - so no solution for my desktop??? Oh, and broke these little fragile plastic antennas - so I took it back and got a new one - still no better.

Strengths: Speed and increased distance. I'm replacing the old 4mbs (if you're lucky) version wireless units
Weaknesses: Need to uninstall all past setup and reconfigure new version. Still not capable of bridge/router/wap in one unit
Summary: I've always had good luck with Linksys products and this is no exception. Since they still haven't managed to provide us whith a single unit the can be a bridge and router you need more pieces and the new style case isn't like the nice stackable older units. I have computers in my house and in my cottage/office about 50' apart and each dwelling is hard wired. I just want to connect them togheter. With the range of this unit I could probably just use it by itself if I wanted to put wireless network cards in all my computers. So if you are just using it in one single floor dwelling it's OK but if you have 2 to connect you need this unit and 2 WAPS which are more expensive than this router.

This unit will send to any wireless computer in one dwelling but You must connect it to a WAP and have another WAP in the other dwelling to create the bridge.

1 Star ReviewI could not get it to work even after replacement
Strengths: It looks nice as a door stop or paper weight
Weaknesses: All. It didnt work.
Summary: 2007-03-26 17:18:51 This was my first wireless router and it's been a nightmare. Physicall installation of this equipment was a snap. Get it to work was torture (Cruel and unusual punishment).

After not being able to install this thing myself ( And I'm pretty computer savvy), I spent over two hours on the phone with Verizon and Linksys technical support doing all kinds of things to get this thing to work. Pinging addresses, disabling firewalls, resetting router and

switching computers, modems in bridge mode, etc etc. They determined the router was defective and I went ahead and ordered a replacement.

Again, the same story with the replacement except this time they pair me up with the Lord of the Wireless Networks in Technical Support and still couldn't get it to work. This router may have worked flawlessly for the majority of people but for me it was a disaster considering I replaced it for another one. There may be some major issues with this particular router so buyer please beware. If you use Verizon DSL equipment and you

buy this particular linksys router you may be setting yourself up for some major hairpulling and swearing. Just get a box Tylenol or Advil before you call tech support.

Strengths: Works well through walls and easy to setup
Weaknesses: None that we've seen so far, though the matching adapter doesn't seem to work that well on Windows XP
Summary: This router is working well for us. We're using it with two different notebooks at home. A Toshiba Satellite running Windows XP using an old Cisco wireless card and an old HP omnibook running Windows 2000 Pro with the Linksys Wireless-G Adapter with SRX. Both are working smoothly, though we had to wrestle for a while with trying to run the SRX adapter on the Toshiba and ultimately gave up.
