Strengths: Vivid pictures and deep blacks. Awesome detail in dark scenes.
Weaknesses: Weak remote control signals.
Summary: The picture quality on this TV is unparalleled. The colors are so vivid with with true color skin tones. The new higher contrast ratio is better than any other LCD in its class. My brother in law has a Samsung LCD TV. I watched "Pirates of the Caribbean" on my TV as well as his. In the dark scenes blacks appeared blue on his TV while on my plasma the scenes looked dark with very good shadow detail just like in a theater. I was very glad for the purchase I had made despite the LCD craze these days. I have hung this TV on my bedroom wall and usually watch it from a distance of 8 ft. During the day I have to close the blinds to avoid too much glare and reflection on the screen on bright sunny days but at night or in a relatively dark room the feeling is like having my own cinema theater. I use this TV to watch movies most of the times. However, my wife has hooked up her Wii and uses it to play in the Game mode. She also watches her serials on this TV in standard definition. And she is extremely impressed with the upscaling on this TV. Sometimes we have to press Info to check if we are watching programs in SD or HD. I watched the NBA finals on this and it was a sports watching experience like never before. I never want to watch sports in SD again after watching them in HD on this TV. The sound on this TV is not as impressive as its picture quality. So, I have hooked up my Sony home theater system and now my TV watching experience is so good. The remote control for this TV is just like the older models and does not have as strong a signal as Universal remotes or Dish network remotes. But that is not a concern. I have one concern though. A green flash occurs when you change the input signal from 480i to 1080i but that has not deterred the picture quality or anything else. I think that is just normal. I am extremely satisfied with my purchase and would do it again in a heartbeat. If a more sleek look is given to this TV this could give those high end TVs a run for their money.

Strengths: Picture perfect
Weaknesses: None so far
Summary: We have done our research on HDTVs (LCD & plasma) for a long time before making the purchase. We almost bought the Sony LCD TV and finally decided on this Panasonic plasma TV, because of price and quality. We bought this for our master bedroom and we are totally satisfied. The resolution is incredible, the size is right, and we did not have the glare problem that other people may experience. Easy set up menus & the quality is excellent at all different viewing angles. No complaints at all.

Strengths: Great picture, great HD, great sound, minimal glare, great price
Weaknesses: "Standard Picture Mode" is a little dim. Once you change to more brillant setting, this tv picture is tough to beat.
Summary: This is a fantastic price for this TV. I found the sound to be excellent, and the glare to be minimal. When I purchased this tv, I actually installed a dimmer switch because I was concerned about the

Strengths: Outstandind picture
Weaknesses: None
Summary: I have been researching HDTVs for the past six months and with the arrival of Panasonic's 42PZ85U I knew I had found the set I have been waiting for. Bottom line; awesome set, from color saturation and deep black levels to intuitive controls and better than decent speakers, this set is a winner. Despite the experts saying 1080p resolution would not bring about a noticeable difference in picture quality over 720 in this screen size I beg to differ. A friend has a 720 Panasonic plasma, (50") and we both observed a substantially improved picture quality in the 85U as compared to his set. I would also reccommend BuyDig.com as their service and pricing were outstanding.

Strengths: Great picture, nice dark black levels, and great contrast.
Weaknesses: Some glare if you have it in a room full of light.
Summary: I bought this TV for my living room and it honestly has the best picture I have seen on a TV yet. I have it hooked up to my PS3 and the games look AMAZING. Blu Ray movies seem to almost pop out of the screen. I have it in a relatively dark room so there is no glare which is sometimes a problem with plasma TVs, so that is something to keep in mind. But the picture on plasmas is much better than LCD so it is a great trade off. Would recommend this TV to everyone. Great value also.

Strengths: Picture Quality
Weaknesses: Possible speaker issues, VGA resolution limited
Summary: Very near to the picture quality you get with top-of-the-line Pioneer Kuro displays costing three times as much. Watched a Blu-Ray disc and occasionally the voices would sound weird, a girl speaking would also have a deeper voice tone speaking the same words (could be a disc problem). Also play xbox LIVE games and sometimes the chat from other gamers crackle when played through the TV speakers (when headset is not used). Bought from 6th Ave which has a pricegrabber price match guarantee right on their website. If you want to connect a PC in the full 1920x1080 you'll need to use a video card with HDMI output. Much better contrast and picture quality than the LCD it replaced. Images appear more vivid and realistic with the perception of depth (3-D).

Strengths: Picture quality is awesome. Sound is what I think real good for a TV. Remote is easy to use. Would be nice if TV remote would control the dish then I could get rid of dish remote. Hook up is easy.
Weaknesses: I have not found any yet.
Summary: This is my first crack at an HDTV. Did a lot of research about LCDs and Plasma TVs. I choose this Panasonic 1080i - 42” Plasma. I’m hooked to a HD dish and it is amazing to watch. The clarity and colors are truly awesome to watch. We were able to watch the NHL playoffs and if you like NASCAR you will love it. I don’t get to watch much anymore, my kids and their friends took over but that’s a good thing. We now know where they are. They hooked up Xbox 360 and I don’t have to worry about burn in with the new technology. Sound is real good for a TV especially in surround mode. I used a HDMI cable to Sat. box, easy hookup. I have this in a darker room so I don’t know how it would look in a room with a lot of light but I think it would be just fine. Beach camera had a real good price with free delivery and a good reputation. A much better price than the big box stores. I had it delivered to where I work with very good results. There were some better prices out there but they had a lot of complaints about service or lack of. All went well beginning to end. Research will go a long way but not a guarantee for anything.

Strengths: Fantastic picture, especially in HD
Weaknesses: Sound is OK, maybe 3 or 4 stars, but could be better.
Summary: 2008-05-16 14:19:48 This is my first plasma set and so far I'm very happy with it. It took a call to Panasonic to help me set it up but they were very helpful. Once set up, it was easy to navigate around the settings. I'm in awe as to the quality of the picture, especially the HD channels. I had to adjust the brightness, contrast, etc on the "standard" mode to get the best picture, but that's just trial and error and eventually, you get the optimum picture. The Cinema mode is fantastic. Overall, I would recommend this TV, it's a great value.

Strengths: Sleek design, great picture, decent remote
Weaknesses: Glossy screen reflects light
Summary: I highly recommend this plasma TV. It has a sleek black look with a piano finish. The picture quality is extremely good from HD sources. The remote control is better than your typical plastic junker. The only downside is the glossy screen, which reflects too much light.
