Strengths: Price,
easy to use,
good quality,
charges ipod.
Weaknesses: kind of bulky
Summary: 2005-08-20 13:26:11 I bought this unit looking for a good quality, cheap solution to listening to my ipod in the car. That is what I got. Simlpy plug in the Transpod to the the cigarette liter, slide in the ipod and go. The clarity is suprisingly good for an FM Transmitter. I highly recommend.

Strengths: It charges, is easy to assemble & use, has many options for installation and it works!
Weaknesses: Many parts you could lose, a little pricey
Summary: A little background first. I have a cassette deck in my car that does not like the cassette adapters for some reason. It keeps spitting them out, tried generic, Monster, Phillips, etc. I use rental cars when I go to the field for my job and most rental cars do not have cassette decks anymore. I needed a solution for listening to my iPod 60GB for these two scenarios. I tried the Griffin iTrip, worked only okay, fidelity was poor, it was a hassle with having to load software into iPod and select radio station on iPod for transmitting. I tried Belken Tunecast II, borrowed a friends, it worked only okay also, fidelity wise. Bought DLO Transpond, put it together in the Targe parking lot, plugged it into the lighter, tuned it to 87.9, lo and behold, it works great. Fidelity is not excellent but it is much better than the other two transmitters I tried and it is acceptable.

TransPod Didn't work for me
Strengths: It mounts really nice and it charges at the same time
Weaknesses: How about it DOES NOT WORK in my car! At all. I tried every single station.
Summary: My car doesn't have a cassette deck, so I was forced into buying an FM transmitter. I heard from many people that they don't work, but I thought I'd give it a try, thinking they were just music junkies and couldn't deal with a little subpar sound quality. Well, I couldn't even hear a single sound. When I tuned my ipod dock into the radio station, all I heard was pure silence. Not even a little music playing through some static! I emailed tech support and they told me to get a newer model.

Strengths: Best solution so far!!
Weaknesses: NA
Summary: This little unit is great! It has the best sound quality of those I've tried, and believe me I've tried a bunch, all of them more costly than this. I originally wanted a wireless one but couldn't get decent sound quality. Also, then it was just banging around in my front seat and flipping off my dash since there was nowhere to put it! This unit plugs into your lighter outlet and includes adjustable handles to keep it close to you while you're driving. Also, it charges your iPod too, which is great when you're on the road. Even though the black one looks better, I figured it was worth grabbing the white one for $30 instead of $80! So far I've ordered 3 more units for friends who ask about it! For $30 you would be crazy not to buy one!

Strengths: It's a good cheap device for your iPod.
Weaknesses: It's a pain to keep plugging it into the cigarette lighter.
Summary: I love the TransPod because it's so inexpensive and also chargers your iPod when your on the go in your car. It's almost like having the satellite but this is more cheaper and convenient.

Strengths: compact and easy solution for using iPod in car, clear reception
Weaknesses: cigarette lighter adapter could be more flexible, Nano adapter not included
Summary: The TransPod FM transmitter is a great solution for using the iPod in the vehicle. There are lots of FM transmitters on the market (Griffin, Monster, etc.) but most have wires hanging around, leave the iPod on the dash or console of the vehicle, or require you to tape or screw a mounting adapter to the dash.
I must note that this is the older style of Transpod, which has since been updated. This older TransPod is a bit... clunkier looking. The channel buttons for the FM transmitter are on the RH side, which is a minor inconvenience for the driver. The newer model is a bit leaner looking and has the channel up/down button on the front. Other than that, I'm not aware of a difference in the technology, and would highly recommend the old model as a good value for the money.
I haven't compared this to other products in terms of sound quality, so I can only comment on the quality of this product. In a word - Great! My only complaint is that the volume on the car stereo must be increased somewhat, so be careful when switching back to a regular station or the CD player. Otherwise you may get rudely awakened.
Another minor complaint is that there is no on/off switch for the unit. I'd like to leave this plugged in all the time so I can just pop in my iPod and go. My vehicle provides power to the power outlet even when the vehicle is turned off. I'm sure it's not a big power drain, but I don't want to risk coming out after sitting in the driveway all weekend to find a dead battery.
Another minor issue, the lighter adapter has limited flexibility, so the iPod sticks straight out from the plug. I'd like to be able to turn it a little to the left so I could see the screen easier.
Last complaint is that the package included the adapter for the Mini, but not the Nano (undoubtedly because it was the older model and the Nano wasn't out yet). Solution: contacted DLO directly and they sent me the adapter for the cost of shipping. Yay!
Okay, it sounds like I've got a bunch of complaints, but these are all minor things. Overall, this is a great product; convenient with good sound quality. Also, this (or any similar) product enhances vehicle safety because the driver should never use earphones when driving (duh!).
