I have a 1051s RF amp hooked up to two RF HX2 10" ...
Strengths: High power handling
Weaknesses: For the amount of power these speakers can handle, they are not loud.
Summary: 2005-03-07 20:13:54 I have a 1051s RF amp hooked up to two RF HX2 10" Each speaker is parellel wired to give a load of 2 ohm. This configuration gives each speaker about 525 watts rms. I also have a 1.5 farad cap hooked up.
Originally I had the speakers in a pre-fab bandpass box and what i got was a bunch of port noise...not very loud.
I then built a custom sealed box based on the manufactures recommendations, about 1 cubic foot. This also was not loud. I then built another box. This time I built a ported 1.3 cubic ft tuned to 35HZ. This had a slight improvement in sound quality, but was not very loud. At this point I was so angry with these speaker I was going to send them back and request a refund. But I figured I would give them another try, but this time I would get technical. I researched for recommendations, asked around on ways of building and improving my boxes. I even used programs designed to build a good box based on speaker specs.
The big day came when I finally built the box out of MDF board. I ended up using a 1.75 cubic ft sealed box per speaker. To my big surprise...these speakers are not any good if you want high spl. Sound quality is ok, but not the best.
Jeffwalla2 said he got 8th place in an spl competition using these speakers and I was in awe until I read the part where he said he used 8 of them. Yeah, that would make high spl, if your willing to buy 8 and the amps necessary to power them then go ahead and purchase these speakers, otherwise look for other speakers that are not made by RF.
I do not recommend anyone purchasing these subs.
Around the same time I hooked up my system, I did my brother-n-laws system. He was using two 10" MTX SVC with an OHM rating of 8. I parallel wired them to give a load of 4 ohm. I bridged his amp to pump about 230 watts rms and let me tell you, these two speakers were very noticebly louder and cleaner sounding then my amp and two HX2's. At this point I feel like trading him.
Needless to say, I will not purchase any RF subwoofers in the future. Their amps are a different story. RF amps are some of the best amps out in the market but they are a little pricey, but well worth it. Too bad for the subwoofers.
If anyone has any questions, post a comment and I will be happy to reply.
Again, DO NOT BUY THESE SUBS spend your money on something else, something better.
