Strengths: Great turn-based tactical strategy game, high level of character customization, good graphics, 50+ hours of game play
Weaknesses: Takes some time to get into, ideal skill and weapons building may require consulting a strategy guide, bland storyline
Summary: Gladius finds you in charge of a school of gladiators, and it's your job to build your students (their skills, armor, weapons, etc.) so they may perform successfully and emerge victorious in a series of tournaments. It's almost like a sports game in this respect. Having put together your team, you'll plan your strategy to best defeat your opponents by moving and attacking within the grid-based arenas.
Game play can be a little slow and repetitive, but the depth and complexity of customization available to you gives you nearly unlimited options in sculpting your team. The enemy AI can make mistakes at times, but you still have to be careful to use the right team members and tactics to confront your enemies at any given time. No battles are ever a cakewalk in Gladius. Given the relative lack of turn-based strategy games on Xbox, most fans of the genre should be more than pleased with this entry.
