Strengths: It's a Compaq and it comes already upgraded from basic model! AMD 1.9Ghz Turion 64 X2, 2GB RAM, 160GB HDD, DVD +/- RW Drive and Vista Home Premium. Old technology eliminated no Parallel & Serial Port.
Weaknesses: Characters on keys hard to see unless well lit from above, this makes use of dual function keys equally difficult. Sound from internal speakers not what expected.
Summary: 2008-05-24 11:28:01 As a Compaq, HP, Apple and Epson factory trained computer tech since the 1980's I know how computers are supposed to work. I have a house full of computers, my wife and 2 kids (7 & 4) are computer literate. So when my 1997 laptop just couldn't keep up I started looking for a new one.

I looked at some ads, read some reviews and set myself a budget of $500-600. The Compaq F755US always came out a winner when compared to other brands in same price range with similar features. After doing some online research I visited several stores. Again and again the Compaq F755US with the 15.4" Widescreen and the glass like screen appearance (if you haven't seen it upclose take a look) was the clear choice.

Although at first I had some concerns about the ports that are no longer included, such as a Parallel Printer, RS232 Serial, PS/2 Mouse or Keyboard, Composite Video or even a PC Card expansion port I looked forward to what it does have. There are 3 USB 2.0 ports, built-in RJ-45 for Ethernet, RJ-11 for Phone/Fax/Modem, On/Off Switchable Wireless Lan, and the SVGA and S-Video jacks for external monitor or TV. The sound from the internal speakers is adequate but external speakers (not included) sound great. Audio In/Out jacks are included but I would have preferred them on the side and not in front.

As I mentioned before this is an upgraded version of the more basic notebooks being advertised don't let a few dollars stop you from getting more for your money.

I bought mine at CircuitCity.com with free shipping and saved an extra $17 in taxes.

I am very happy with my purchase especially since it fit my (like new) old carrying case!
