Strengths: Picture Quality....ease of use
Weaknesses: remote
Summary: I purchased this TV back in April. I am very pleased with its performance to this point. The remote seems alittle outdated. My cable company was able to program my cable remote to work on/off...channel change and volume. So I use the Olevia remote sparingly. Picture quality on analog stations is pretty good. Digital stations even better. HD stations just amazing (both vivid colors and clarity. Can't go wrong with this TV, especially for the price!

Strengths: Picture, ease of use, reliability & a huge amount of connections!!!
Weaknesses: Remote large etc etc... Need to get that resolved in future models..
Summary: I bought this TV in Oct 2005. I primarily use it for TV but find myself going more twords my computer scree. I has a fast cycle time and is easily viewed from 8-12' I recomend 6-8' when using as comp screen. I am slowly getting into gaming due to the ease of use. i also purchace the Adesso wireless FM 24gig keyboard... I got to tell you once this combo is reached be carefull your life gets easy and youe belly gets bigger... I HIGHLY recomend this TV to anyone. It is easy to set up, needs little to no adjustments (screen, picture quality). You must use the S-video or the composite conections. If you don't it works fine but the color, picture and resolution drop dramatically !! Once again GET IT. You will love it.

2 Star ReviewPicture is OK but Syntax is Shady
Strengths: Nice enough TV, but expect to pay full price because rebate will likely be denied.
Weaknesses: Syntax denied my rebate and that of 3 friends to whom I recommended the TV (based on the great rebate).
Summary: 2005-08-17 03:20:27 A relatively inexpensive choice for people who want a bright picture and aren't too concerned about performance. This dark-horse LCD delivers on price (if you are lucky enough to get the promised rebate), but not on picture quality and ease of use. The first thing you notice is the clunky, ill-conceived remote, which is a common problem across all Syntax Olevia TVs. The picture suffers from poor color decoding, and the monitor is unable to render deep blacks. Also, the picture displays jagged-edge artifacts. The non-removable, on-board speakers are pretty weak, and even distort the sound in some cases. Last, but not least, the shiny Syntax logo is distractingly large and overpowering. Overall, the TV is just OK. The hype about this off-brand TV is just that. The manufacturer has dumped relatively inexpensive units on the US market from Taiwan/Hong Kong. The worst thing about the company is that they offer rebates with apparently no intention of paying. Unfortunately, rebate scams are hugely profitable for companies. They forecast large revenues based on people not bothering to submit rebates, omitting something, or sumbitting late. Some even "lose" rebate documents as a matter of course. I don't know what Syntax is guilty of, but I do know that I and my 3 friends never got our rebates, and now we are stuck filing claims with the Attorney General, FTC, BBB, and consumeraffairs dot com.

Strengths: Clear picture, lots of features, lots and lots of input connections
Weaknesses: Poor remote control, slow reaction time when changing inputs
Summary: I went to check this TV out in a local store before I bought it. I live in NYC, so I was lucky enough to have two shops nearby that carried it. While the colors on the 30 inch model were disappointing compared to those around it, the 32 inch was much better. The whites and blacks weren't quite as sharp as the name brand TVs around it, but at half the price, it wasn't just good, it was good enough. Once it was in my apartment, I couldn't tell the difference anymore. In short, I have been very happy with this TV.

The biggest negative is the remote. Sometimes you have to hit it a couple of times to get a reaction. I've read a lot of other reviews complaining about the same problem. In addition, to keep the remote's appearance simple, they hide a whole set of buttons under a slide-down cover. Aside from being a little inconvenient, the buttons that I use 95% of the time are in that group - input selectors, aspect ratios, etc. Those buttons should really be on the top for easy access. You can use other universal remotes for some features, but most of the important features (aside from on/off) are new and not found on most remotes.

Back to the TV itself, everything else is pretty good. The only quirky thing I've found is that the Picture In Picture feature gets a little quirky when one of the pictures is from my DVD player. Tech support tells me it should fix itself if I shut off the progressive scan on the DVD player, but I don't know how to do that. Even so, I don't really have a need to watch 2 things at once anyway, so I didn't bother to test this solution.

Summary: I'm satisfied. DVD movies come in crystal clear using the component inputs, and even using my low-res Directv box and an S-video connector is sharp enough to see Homer shake his curvy yellow arse in all its pixelated glory.

1 Star ReviewDisapointing
Strengths: NA
Weaknesses: NA
Summary: We bought the 32" on July 24, 2005 and it puked on August 25, 2005. Just died, right out of the blue. Screen went black, audio quit. Called Syntax customer service who decided that the tv was dead and not repairable. Told me they would send me a new one, we could then pack up the old one after receiving the new one. It would take 5-6 business days for a new one to arrive. This happened at 6:45 on a Friday. We will now go for at least a week w/o tv b/c of this piece of junk. They faxed me their replacement information to begin the process, and that document tells me that they will not ship a new one until they receive confirmation from their carrier that the old one has been picked up, and to add insult to injury they must have a credit card # so that they can "authorize" the MSRP of the old tv so that they can charge the card for any damage, scratches, etc. once they assess it. In other words, I haven't even received a bill yet for the first tv, and they are going to "authorize" another charge to my card for the 2nd tv. The MSRP for the 2nd tv is $1499, which is $300 more than I paid for it. I will end up with nearly $3000 charged/"authorized" to my card for a tv that lasted one month.

Strengths: Picture Quality, Design, Inputs, Cost
Weaknesses: Remote Control, Can't remove Speakers
Summary: WHAT I WANTED:

I spent months (I’m an engineer and like the detail!) looking at LCD and Plasma TVs for our kitchen. We were doing a major remodel and I wanted a 26" TO 40" wall mounted TV to use as a computer monitor and a TV, but did not want to spend $5K. I was originally going to go with a Plasma ($ and performance) but I was worried about burn in with Plasma since I have had that happen to me. LCD technology looked like the best option but the first generation of models had high prices and low specifications – not something I was willing to put up with. I looked at Sony and Sharp mostly but also reviewed all the other major LCD brands that I could find. Nothing meet my needs. I had not looked at the Olevia TV’s in person due to some of the earlier models reviews.

WHY I PICKED THIS MODEL:

When I read the announcements on the new Syntax models, I thought I may have waited for the right model. Could it be, a low cost TV with high end specifications? I pre-ordered a model on the reviews alone, not something I would normally do but it had a 90 day return policy and I was not afraid to return it. Not all the reviews were positive, but after spending time with this model I am sure that this is truly a new generation of LCD TV – excellent picture quality at a low cost. I do not think most of the early reviewers had actually seen the TV based on some of the comments I read about this model.

WHAT I GOT:

This TV does it all. Right out of the box I hooked everything up, and - it worked just as advertised. No complicated hook up or configuration issues. When I connected my computer, it just came right up no configuration required. Now I can watch TV while I write this review!

The picture quality was far better than any of the other units I saw, and many of them were excellent. Better yet the cost was much lower. The Super-IPS (Super-In-Plane-Switching) provides a clear picture that looks great even with fast action. Beat the Sony and the Sharp hands down in my opinion. The specifications seem amazing compared to most current models - Http://www.syntaxgroup..., but after seeing the unit I would agree that Syntax hit the mark with this one.

There were even functions that I did not know about that I have been using - like watching 12 channels at the same time. The picture is crystal clear, it is bright, no lag, awesome sound and so far using it has been a snap. The screen is so bright that you really can watch it from the side, at ~170 you can still easily watch it. Even dark screens come out clear; I was surprised how well after seeing the other TVs in this category. The price is great, the product is just what I wanted - this is one very happy customer!

Today the only problem is me getting to use it, no one else in my family wants to use any of the other TVs in the house! It is used with an xBox, DVD player, cable and as a computer monitor. The only minor issue I have found is the remote is not as high of quality of the TV. It is nice looking but the buttons do not have a clean feel when you push them. But that I can live with – the TV is not going to be returned, it is here to stay!

Strengths: Great looking TV! All black cabinet looks very sleek!
Weaknesses: Remote is a little big.
Summary: For the money I think this is one of the best kept secrets in the LCD marketplace. Do your research and you'll see that this is a set to give some consideration to when shopping. I compared all the specs on all of the top sellers and I think this one is the best overall value. Especially with the $200 rebate they offered for buying it in February from Buydig.com. No tax, free shipping and it arrived 3 days after I ordered it!

Strengths: Nice contrast ratio compared to other LCDs, great price, hookups galore
Weaknesses: Odd native resolutions, ugly buttons on front, funky remote
Summary: I got this TV to use as a second monitor. I have another LCD that I want to use as my primary, and I wanted something that I could keep palettes/web browsers/movies on. This TV fits the bill pretty well, although there are a few things I would change if I were given the chance. My PC doesn't let me use the TV's native resolution, 1366x768, and instead I have to use 1280x768. It just doesn't stretch the right way. I tried it on two different machines using both the VGA and DVI hookups, with no success. In fact, I even tried a manual resolution tool, but again... No dice. Oh well, movies still look awesome, even if text is kind of weird.

The buttons on the front are kind of ugly. I wish they had put them on the top or bottom, but I guess Syntax is still refining their design. This model is a lot more attractive than the LT30HV series, which had that awful IR thing right in the front. Maybe the next generation will look cool.

Arguably the best thing about this TV is the hookup panel. There are a TON of plugs, including 2xHD component hookups, both VGA and DVI plugs, and a slew of composite and s-video ports. Not bad, considering that some 32" LCDs that cost quite a bit more don't feature two component sets, or don't have DVI.

Some of the other people on pricegrabber have mentioned a few things I'd like to comment on. First of all, whoever said that this TV doesn't have a good contrast ratio is a little off. You do have to mess with the settings a bit, but the 1200:1 is a large improvement over LCD TVs with lower ratios. It's no Samsung 3000:1, but at around 3/5 the price, it's not bad at all, and better than most budget LCDs you'll find.

The remote IS kind of weird, but this is a simple fix with a smooth universal remote; in fact, there's a great one with an LCD screen on sale from a popular web retailer for around $30 shipped. I guess I'm not allowed to post the name of the site, but needless to say, they probably have an overstock of these items.

As far as the rebate goes, we'll have to see how BuyDig handles it. There hasn't been enough time for me to see if I'll get it yet or not, but hopefully there won't be any problems.

My final price on 9/1/05 was $969 after no tax, free shipping, and $100 rebate.

Strengths: Picture quality, inputs, excellent color calibration control, price vs performance
Weaknesses: currently no built-in HDTV option, remote has poor design, minor issues w/PS and DVD player
Summary: 2005-04-14 07:28:28 This TV was a joy to setup from the minute I took it from its well packaged box. The OSD provides many options and is fairly intuitive to access. The dual tuners work great and deliver very acceptable quality from analog cable. This TV provides multiple viewing options from 2 sources, including PIP, split, and up to 12 screens with 1 active and the other 11 updating. I've connected a laptop to the VGA port at 1280 x 720 and the display was beautiful. This monitor supports many resolutions! Text and webpages were easy to view from 10+ feet away and high quality pictures looked life-like.

I plan on building an HTPC with an HDTV tuner and connecting with the DVI input. The computer will do the de-interlacing and up-conversion of DVDs for me. I am hoping to get superior quality versus my JVC XV-44N DVD player connected by component inputs.

Syntax is releasing a 42 LCD-TV in May with a built-in HDTV tuner. The current tuner may be upgradeable, however the manual did not provide any such details.

I ordered this computer from BuyDig.com on Monday and it shipped the same day arriving on Wednesday. I am very pleased with monitor and would recommend to anyone looking for an HDTV in this size range.

Strengths: size, appearance, connectivity, ease of use
Weaknesses: few; balky remote, some red push out of the box
Summary: Hi,

I bought the Olevia LT32HV from Target at a very reasonable price. Coupons are easy to come by. The order/delivery process went smoothly- I received the set in perfect condition 1 day early. This unit was purchased as a second set, to be used primarily by my kids for digital cable viewing, and PS2 use. I will hook up the set to my laptop in the evenings on occasion.

I find the Syntax extremely easy to work with. There is abundant connectivity in a variety of formats. I'm currently using component to connect to HD cable via a SA8200 box. I'm using VGA for the laptop. I'm considering using the DVI port for the SA box, but haven't yet. The PS2 is connected composite. BTW, I'm impressed with the sound quality of the attached speakers.

I am very pleased with this set, and think it represents excellent value. To be fair, my primary set it a Panny plasma, which sets a high standard. The Syntax can't match the PQ of the Panny on SD cable, but approaches it on HD cable. The Syntax is better with the computer and PS2.

I would definately recommend this unit to family and friends, especially at this price point. I would make this set a definate look for anyone looking for a second set, or a primary display for someone on a limited but reasonable budget. Hope this helps!

Strengths: Price, Picture, Inputs
Weaknesses: Remote, Speakers
Summary: The first set I received had a high pitched whistle coming from both speakers. I spoke with customer support and after approx. 2 weeks they sent me a replacement. No more whistle but the sound quality of these speakers is subpar. I also would have preferred detachable speakers.

While I was waiting for the replacement I hooked the TV up to my receiver which is very easy with this TV considering the large amount of input/outputs, including a DVI port.

I have comcast digital w/HD service and the picture quality on the HD channels is awesome. I looked at alot of highend brands and this set preforms as good if not better. I also have my Xbox hooked up to it and again the picture quality is great. Color richness and depth is excellent.

For the price you can't beat this TV and my experience with customer service was execellent. I recommend this set to anyone looking for a reasonably priced LCD TV with highend performance. Just be prepared to buy yourself a home theatre system or a decent receiver to makeup for the speakers.

I still give this set 5 Stars. I love it.

3 Star ReviewYou get what you paid for.
Strengths: Good TV for that kind of money, grate rebate.
Weaknesses: Logo is killing me during the night time, it so bluish bright that you do not need the night stand(I bought for the bedroom). Second ennoying thing is some humming noise from the speakers.
Summary: When you are at the distance you won't hear it. However if you get closer and TV is in low volume you can hear it well. Please tell me if some body else having this problem. Same story with Video input same humming nose, hoever you can't hear it on mute :-) Another thing is that all of the component inputs show greenish picture. Did not have time to call support, they say home repeir for a year under warreanty. Bought my from BuyDig looked like a display model.

Strengths: The picture and video quality seems very good. I use regular basic cable and can still receive good analog TV signals. With DVI. Excellent price and looks stylish.
Weaknesses: The parental control fucntion is only based on content ratings and cannnot block all TV channels. When connecting to external video devices such as VCR, DVD players, it has stripes occasionally.
Summary: I would recommend that others purchase this product due to various reasons: picture and video quality, low price, and quality customer service.

The picture and video quality seems better when connecting with a DVD player. The price on Syntax Olevia LT32HV 32" LCD TV seems a very good deal than other similar size LCD TVs from other manufacturers. The packaging of the product seems very good when arriving. During setup, I called the customer service and received quality service. In addition, I called today and was told that my rebate check will be sent out to me in May 2005!

Strengths: Fast response time. Wide viewing angle.
Weaknesses: Unrealistic colors. Low quality remote. Few remote shortcuts.
Summary: Actually the TV is not bad. It's a pretty good deal for the price. But, don't be lured by the hefty mail-in rebates offered by Syntax. They are very good at finding excuses to deny rebates. Therefore I would suggest, before you buy any olevia TV do some online research on Syntax rebate issues.
