Strengths: Price, construction, durability
Weaknesses: A little difficult to open at first
Summary: I was looking for a secure way to store important documents: birth certificates, savings bonds, etc. My priorities were a good price, convenient size, and fire/water protection - not necessarily theft protection.
The Sentry F2300 met these needs very well. It is large enough to hold the equivalent of 2 or 3 reams of paper, but small enough to sit on a closet floor without taking up too much room. I can only trust Sentry that it will protect my valuables from fire and water; it could be stolen, of course, but it would at least slow someone down if they tried to lug it out the door.
My only minor complaint is that the waterproofing makes the chest a little difficult to open; you have to push the lid down to open the latch. Again, this was a very short learning curve and should not keep anyone from purchasing.

This may not survive a fire due to mechanical weakness.
Strengths: The device is both fireproof and waterproof, and is relatively inexpensive compared to high end safes.
Weaknesses: Very poor quality plastic hinges on the cover.
Summary: After opening and closing the lid several times, which requires extra force in order to ensure that the gasket seals properly, I noticed that it was getting harder to align. Looking more closely, I saw that the right hinge, which is made of cheap plastic, had entirely broken off, and it was now easy to remove the entire cover. This is unacceptable; if the safe were in a fire on an upper floor, which burned through so that it fell to a lower floor, the cover might be loosened in the fall, and this would make the entire safe useless. I'm going to have to find a higher quality replacement. I would not recommend this product, and would encourage the manufacturer to re-think the quality of the hinge to ensure that the safe does not fail in this way. I would also warn buyers that the warranty only covers the safe, and not its contents, so if it fails in the way I've suggested, you have no recourse for recovering the contents.

Strengths: Well designed fits 9x12 envelopes and file folders
Good price
Weaknesses: none so far
Summary: This product is heavy and well made. It is fire and water proof. Designed for 1 hour fire protection which is much better than the 1/2 for most. Only thing to remember is to push down on the lid when opening the chest. It is quite large so it would fit most households important documents.

Strengths: Price, Construction, Fits my documents perfectly
Weaknesses: Heavy - difficult to move around without a handle
Summary: I've been looking for a firesafe for a while now to store all my important documentation in. I managed to pick this up on sale from Office Depot for under $30 which in my view makes this a bargain. It is extremely sturdy and so weighs a ton, it's not the sort of thing that can be moved around easily. But that gives me some peace of mind that it will indeed hold up should the worst happen. I guess it's the kind of thing you get and hope you never need, but at least I know I'll be comfortable having this and I'll also know where all my important docs are as they shouldn't be able to go walkabout in this!

Strengths: Fire- and water- proof. Heavy (hopefully, deters thieves). Seals tightly without using the key to lock. Reasonably priced.
Weaknesses: Size is suited for regular yellow envelopes or letter size papers only. Larger envelopes do not fit. Not designed for photos, film etc.
Summary: Fortunately, I haven't had a chance to test its fire- and water-protective properties but hopefully it works as described. It seems to seal tightly even without locking it with a key. Make sure to read the instruction on how to open it (you need to press the lid down while pulling on the latch). It is heavy and difficult to carry around so hopefully it will prevent any potential thieves from taking it in a hurry. One inconvenience - I like to keep some of my documents in larger envelopes (legal size or Express Mail-type envelopes) and they don't fit into the safe. Otherwise it seems a good deal for the price.

Strengths: This is an excellent security/fire chest. Well contructed and design.
Weaknesses: There is No Built-In Handle for easy caring. :( .
Summary: Money well spent for the price at Office Depot. This Safe/Fire Chest is made and will last a LIFE TIME. It's built like a tank with ample space inside for storing many diffrent items inside. The fact that this chest is water Proof as well as fire Proof makes this item an EXCELLENT MUST have in your home security. My only drawback is the fact that this security chest does not come with a built in handle for easy caring like a briefcase/suitcase. THIS IS A MUST HAVE IN YOUR HOME ITEM!

Strengths: Heavy; No handle; Water & Fire-safe; Compact and practicle
Weaknesses: Overpriced on the Canadian market
Summary: Although the price is a little high for a safe this size, it is a practicle safe with ample room to store important documents and small items. Its weight makes it awkward to easily lug around; hence, it has a built-in theft deterent, especially since it doesn't have a handle. It is strongly constructed and seals well against water or file. It is easy to open. Its practicle size makes it easy to store in quarters that have limited space.

Strengths: strength/durability
Weaknesses: price
Summary: I wish it had cost half as much, but I think it will work great. I looked around and this was by far the most reasonably-prived 1-hour fire protection/waterproof safe I could din, though its twice as big as I need. I wish they had a thirty dollar model, since its one of those things you'l hopefully neevr have to use.

Strengths: Very nice design!!!
Weaknesses: Nothing
Summary: This is one of the best safety chests I have ever used. It is also my first one. They make excellent products at a reasonable price.

Strengths: Portable fire-safe and water-resistance at a great price.
Weaknesses: Needs a handle.
Summary: Purchased to store my external data drive for backing up my desktop and laptop. I used to store my drive off-site, which is still a great idea, but not that convenient for regular back ups. I like that this product is fire-safe up to one hour and that it is waterproof. Some products don't specify that they are waterproof whereas contents could become damaged if a fire is extinguished by water. This box has plenty of room for my external drive and some important papers.

Strengths: Well contructed and just fits my documents.
Weaknesses: No handle, too heavy.
Summary: This security chest is just what I need. I can put 9x12 envelopes and other documents in it. First I got a defective one. The door cannot be fully closed. Took it back to officemax(it's very heavy) and got a good one. It looks very durable. For this price, I highly recommended.

Very poor design
Strengths: Cheap
Weaknesses: Can probably easily pop open if falling during a fire
Summary: As mentioned by a previous reviewer, the plastic hinges on the back of this box are not rigid. If you push the cover with little force pass its resting open position, it will pop out of its hinge!!... Try it in the store and observe the whole thing deforming like a cheap soft plastic toy as you push the cover while holding the box horizontal.
Considering the weight of this item, one would expect a solid hinge system.
The locking mechanism does not seem very robust either but I did not play much with it because this joke of a hinge is a total red card for me. I am bringing this piece of junk back to the store tomorrow.

Strengths: Good size, color, price. Fits in my cellar with my tool boxes. You would never know it's a safe. Holds normal size documents.
Weaknesses: There is No Built-In Handle for easy caring.
Summary: Excellent product at a reasonable price. This product is heavy and well made, could use a handle, but it's only 40 lbs. Your not carrying this puppy to work!!! It is fire and water proof. I got mine at Office Max.com, was here in 2 days. Shipping is only $5.00, but if you spend more than $50.00 the shipping is free, plus there was an instant $20.00 rebate.
