Plastic gears and rubber belts make a grinding sound. The gears and the belt will not last long on this thing. Summary: This machine is not worth the time it takes to unpack it from the carton. I was so excited to purchase my first meat slicer. The idea was to smoke turkey breasts and hams and make our own lunch meat. My husband and I tried to slice boneless turkey breasts, boneless ham and some hard salami. The blade runs with plastic gears and the rubber belt cannot grip the gears. No matter how small the meat is cut, the blade bogs down and the belt slipping on the gears makes a terrible racket. This machine will not last long. It goes back to the store tomorrow!
