Strengths: good mid-range processing of digital audio, incredibly realistic sounding surround processing, compact size with no wires run around the room
Weaknesses: I don't know why your review insists on a weakness to complete. I guess the fact that the power cord isn't detachable could be a weakness.
Summary: The self-contained Marantz ES7001 has everything you need for your home theater. It serves as a very comprehensive digital receiver, having three toslink inputs, two HDMI inputs, and several analog inputs, plus one HDMI output. The OPSODIS surround processing technology gives this compact unit the ability to replace a mid-range surround speaker system AND to replace your surround receiver. This unit also works very well for listening to iTunes music played from my mac Mini. I am purchasing the complementary SW5001 subwoofer to complete the package... it does a fir job alone, but feel that the subwoofer is important. I've tested the unit for several hours connected to a DirecTV HD receiver. I've also listened to music in Apple Lossless from my Mac mini using the digital toslink connector, and to a Pioneer LaserDIsc player... the reproduction of sound from the LD THX disks is absolutely crystal clear. I just finished listening to a couple of DVD movies also, and I'm very pleased with my purchase.
