Strengths: Expansion slot can add 512mb, long---long--long battery life and way loud enough to drown out the RB+ Rap crap they play at my gym. Easy to read screen and FM reception is OK in chicago.
Weaknesses: Slightly larger than most players
Summary: Buy this plus a 256mb card for about $65-70 and you have a 320mb player for about $120..can't beat that with a stick. I bought the 512MB SD card from sears for $100 so now I have a 576MB player for about $160. I don't like earbud headphones so I am using the sony behind the neck style type and it sounds great. It does expand to 576MB in case you are unsure. Software is cool too. I only installed the minimum to transfer files and have the newest versoin from sonicblue.com

1 Star ReviewReceived my S10 as a gift in 11/02 after 5 months ...
Strengths: Displays artist and song, backlit, scrolling display
Weaknesses: Integrity of the unit breaks down, Its guaranteed too.
Summary: 2003-12-27 16:30:55 Received my S10 as a gift in 11/02 after 5 months of use it stopped working. Went through about a month of red tape with Sonic they finally broke down and gave me the ok to send back unit for "replacement". They honor their "warranty" by replacing my 6 month old mp3 with a "refurbished" unit. 5 months almost to the day my refurbished unit stopped working. What I mean by stopped working is it won't turn on. I replaced the battery and went through "steps to fix it" with sonic's "crack tech. support team" to no avail. They stated that since it is a "refurbished" unit and I did'nt have an original bill of sale I was not entitled to replacement. ***BEWARE OF SONIC BLUE PRODUCTS***

Strengths: Inexpensive, expandable, durable
Weaknesses: Software
Summary: I've had this player for over a year and love it. It's only $50 and even though it only has 64 Mb built in, it can be expanded with up to a 512 MB SD card. It supports both MP3 and WMA formats. I use WMA and can compress the songs to 64 kbps and keep good sound quality. With a 256 SD card, I get about 150 songs on it. It comes with a cushioned case that protects it from damage. The recent firmware and software updates make it compatable with Windows Media Player so you don't have to use the proprietary Rio software. It would be better if it was drag and drop with windows explorer. It's been very reliable for me.

Strengths: Small, lightweight, nice padded cover/clip case provided, easy to use, Mac compatible - uses iTunes which I already have.
Weaknesses: Software provided for set-up is cumbersome and confusing - at least for a Mac. Had to re-load iTunes, even though I already have it installed, in order to proceed.
Summary: The provided 64mb very quickly becomes not nearly enough. The 2 hours of music promised on the packaging is true only with WMA format on a PC - the MP3 format on a Mac only provides a little less than an hour. But the memory can be upgraded to 192mb with memory cards (expensive). All in all, though, this player works very well with a Mac, is light and easy to use. Got this for working out at the gym and it's perfect - clips right on to my shorts or sweats withbout pulling them down from the weight. Would buy another, but hope that I won't have to.

Strengths: Sound. Display is nice. Great Features.
Weaknesses: With Newest Firmware and Software, None at all.
Summary: This player has long been discontinued but if you can find one (even refurbished) then please consider getting it. I have owned mine for two years and has been nothing but great. The newest firmware (Aug/04) has greatly improved the unit's display configuration and has added playlist support. The sound quality is excellent and the preset equalizer or custom setting gives many options to suit to your liking. There is also a stop watch if you need it. A nifty extra for sure. Battery life is very long and has an option for alkaline or NIMH.

Many complaints here on the software for this unit. However RIO has updated its software numerous times to make it worthy. Version RMM 2.96 was released (AUG/05) and is quite easy to use and performs well.

Out of the five players I own, this RIO tops them. Do not hesitate with this one.
