Strengths: Does almost anything you'd want a remote to do
Weaknesses: Not the best ergonomic feel
Summary:
I've owned three other Prontos before I bought the 9400 (all still in use!) and hands down this is the best one yet. From the vastly improved and higher resolution touch screen to the (finally!) usable hard buttons, the 9400 is a remote worthy of any nice home theater.
If you've never seen a Pronto before, you should before you decide on what remote to put in your HT. There are many imitators but I'm convinced the Pronto line is the best out there. However, this comes at a steep learning curve. While many HT remotes are easier to set up, they are limited to what they can do. Not so with the Pronot 9400. With the 9400 and the optional WiFi extender you can set up a Prontoscript to check the weather or even show the current radio station playing your your receiver.
A certified Philips installer can help you with this if you are not versed in programming or don't have the time. If you do, there are many web sites decided to the Pronto remote controls.
Even if you just want to merge all your various remotes into the Pronto, it's terrific for this and completely customizable, even down to naming the button, something many remotes do not allow, and which can get confusing when the button names don't match the original remote. You can also place the touch screen buttons anywhere on the screen you like.
Basic setup of the TSU-9400 is no where as difficult as writing a custom Prontoscripts. The TSU-9400 comes with a huge database of remote codes for hundreds of manufacturers. Just link the buttons to the proper code and done. If you want to get more detailed., like one push buttons for TV channels it gets more tedious, but still relies on the same linking principle. And again if it's not something you are comfortable doing or don't have the time, there are plenty of Philips certified installers that can help you out. Don't let that scare you off from owning one of the best HT remotes out there.
