More of the same only works so many times. . .
Strengths: Two new races, new air units, more of the same works for a while
Weaknesses: Too expensive for what you get, minimal new content, weak storyline, still requires old expansion packs to play all races online
Summary: The original Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War brought a faster-paced real-time-strategy game to market, and both Winter Assault and Dark Crusade (each released a year apart) brought two new races and some gameplay refinements to the mix. Soulstorm tries to ride the Warhammer gravy train just a bit longer, but the higher retail price and minimal new content make it tough to recommend.
The new races (Dark Eldar and Sisters of Battle) will surely be welcomed by series fans, but they don't differ much from the existing army factions. The mediocre new air units are difficult to control and lack refinement, and the single player campaign has no story to speak of. You'll also need the original Dawn of War and all previous expansion packs if you want to play the old races online.
While Soulstorm has a built-in fanbase among buyers of previous games in the series, this installment doesn't give players much new content while asking that you pay $10 more. If you liked the previous Dawn of War titles, you'll probably like Soulstorm as well, but please don't reward this lackluster effort by paying full price. Buy it on sale or clearance (in a few months) if you must, or buy the original Dawn of War or Dark Crusade instead if you're a new player.
