Strengths: compact, stylish, comfortable with smooth edges, angled viewfinder, lens quality, zoom toggle well placed.
Weaknesses: loud operation motor noise, thick manual book, thumb wheel button lack restrain(feel),LCD screen.
Summary: .After making a trip to the store, looking at various models including JVC and SONY,the ELURA 40 wins in terms of handling and ease of use.I especially like the contoured body with smooth edges as compared to SONY and JVC boxy type body. Then came to the question of ZR 45,one thing that attracted me to the ZR45 was the zoom power,I mean 22X optical zoom.whoa!,I can see the eagle tails with those zoom power!! I had to struggle whether to choose power or convenience's the ZR45 is held horizontaly as opposed to the Elura that hold vertically. After awhile I decided to go for the Elura, why?,well I figured out I'm just a normal user,I don't need the extra power or handling to use it,what I need is portability, that way I will use it more often, rather than keep it in my bag.Voila!easy decision there, the aim is to priorities my need!! HANDLING: Handling is superb, not too heavy not too light, with a little bit of practice, and with the help of Image stabilizer,I can get fairly shake free images, the zoom toggle is very responsive, but not the thumb wheel. Menu button are well place, but the Digital effect button are stored inside the LCD screen,so you have to flip out the screen in order to use it. Features: More than I need. Performance I have to say the lens quality is good.Reflecting the lens off light source you can see the coating are quite impressive.(I'm a photographer for 10 years,so just based on my experience here). Focusing is fast, and accurate.
