Strengths: sharp picture, steady refresh at SXGA resolution, good contrast, ability to tweak settings.
Weaknesses: color temperature and left edge alignment
Summary: This is a great monitor for the money. Surprised me even after reading some positive reviews. I was replacing a Sony G500 that went bad on me. 85hz isn't the highest refresh for 1280X1024, since I had it set at 100hz before, but steady enough. With some color combination lines, you can see the scan, but almost imperceptible. I have only two minor complaints. The factory color temperature is pretty high. The white looks a little blue, and the next highest color temp is too low, the white looks green. I haven't figured out yet if I can manually set the color temp, but heck, these are things that normal people wouldn't recognize at all, so I'm really nitpicking. The other is the left edge alignment. I can't get the edge perfectly straight, after playing around for a few minutes with the trapezoid, and etc functions. Once again, barely perceptible. The good parts now: Great picture. I have the brightness turned up a little high, and the blacks are still very black. Great for watching videos - popped in a DVD to check it out and looked great. Uniform brightness. No Sony flat CRT lines in the middle. Good landings for all four corners. I think this monitor can easily beat other monitors that are 50-100% more expensive. I wonder why PC Mag or PC World have never given this thing an Editor's Choice. I've seen inferior monitors selling for more get those recognitions. Anybody know if KDS is going to have a 21" flat CRT screen for $300??
