Strengths: Highly addictive, easy to setup and play.
Weaknesses: Dance mats are needed along with a PS2.
Summary: I purchased this for my kids for Christmas. I remember seeing the arcade version at an amusement park every summer and my kids would watch the "expert" players going at it for hours on end. My kids would play for a minute or so and the "experts" would be back at it again with no let up in sight. I have been wanting to buy this for a couple of years now and now I wish I did so sooner! I purchased a package deal which included the DDRMAX game and two dance mats. The mats just plus in to the PS2 controller ports and you just pop in the CD and play. There are many options from intro lessons, workout mode (which shows calories burned) to the actual dance game. My kids have not stopped playing DDRMAX since they opened the package! Your progress is saved to your memory card (not included) and keeps track of your scores. The only week point I can see is the durability of the mats. They take some abuse and I imagine they will wear out at some time in the future. Not a problem though since replacement mats are available all over the web. You can even get "hard" mats that are just like the arcade version. So if you have seen this played in an arcade or amusement park and didn't want to embarrass yourself in front of an audience (like me), then I recommend getting this home version and be prepared for a workout which is fun!

Great family entertainment
Strengths: Something for the whole family
Weaknesses: Hope you like club music
Summary: DDRMax is a great game for the entire family. First off, you must realize you need a dance pad (or two if you want to compete). Once you have the dance pad, you're all set to go. Starting off, it's really easy to learn and most people will be able to do the light (aka- easy) level songs. As you master those titles, you set it to the next level ad many more steps are added into the same songs. Personally I think that the progression from one level to the next is almost too much. While I feel I have gotten really good at the light levels, I can barely even keep up with the steps on the next level up (never mind expert mode!). Nonetheless, this product has enough great features (workout mode, competition, etc.), that it deserves at least a try.

Strengths: Great song list, fun and healthy!
Weaknesses: None except for my weak sauce skills
Summary: This is my second experience with DDR games and I love it.
DDR Max is an intense dancing game where you attempt to match the onscreen arrows with your feet on a dance pad. It's a pick up and play game that is easy to learn but tough to master, especially if your too used to using your thumbs. The songlist is fairly large with only a couple of duds so you should find a few songs you like to keep practicing on. Don't bother with using a controller...it's just....wrong.
The soft pads work well for a while but they will eventually wear out and it will be very difficult to play it on anything past light mode.

Strengths: + A strong debut for the DDR series on the PS2
+ Strong song selection
Weaknesses: - Not many weaknesses to be had, except the extremely out of shape will most likely be unable to play
- Also, if you're easily embarrassed, this isn't the game for you
Summary: DDRMax: Dance Dance Revolution for the PS2 is the series debut on the PS2 console and it's even better than it's PSOne's predecessors (and much easier to find, might I add).
Modes like Workout mode help players like me keep a daily dance routine which makes this exercise feel like fun. The graphics aren't all that impressive (the backgrounds can be quite distracting at times, as well), but it's my opinion in that a dancing game doesn't really need to have strong graphics in order to succeed. It's the songs that matter and this game delivers.
All in all, if you liked the previous versions, definitely go for this one.

This is a decent DDR game but not the best one as ...
Strengths: DDR Game!
Weaknesses: Music collection is not as good as DDRMAX2 and DDR Extreme.
Summary: This is a decent DDR game but not the best one as of now. It has all the basic DDR features but somehow the songs collection is not as exciting as DDRMAX2 and DDR Extreme. Recommand to rent it. If you haven't played any DDR games before, go for the DDR Extreme!

Strengths: The best PS2 DDR mix to date.
Weaknesses: No Beginner mode for first-timers, although they should be fine on Light mode.
Summary: Before this game, DDR was always better in the Japanese versions. The songs were always better, and that's all that really matters. DDRMAX changed all that. With a slick new interface and a songlist better than any version the world had seen at the time, this still remains the best version of DDR you can buy for your PS2.
DDRMAX has plenty of songs for you to play. There are licensed songs, such as I Like to Move It by Reel 2 Real, Sandstorm by Darude, and Ordinary World by Aurora, just to name a few. These are joined by the usual smattering of Konami originals, like Abyss and era (nostalmix). You'll find plenty of fun songs here, ranging from really easy to just this side of impossible. And if you get really good, you can try Oni Challenge mode, which can only be described as hard as all get out.
The only bad thing, if you could call it that, is that there's no Beginner mode. Still, first timers can hop aboard Lesson Mode to learn the ropes, and then they should be all right playing some of the easier Light songs.
If you have a PS2 and like DDR, this is a great mix. You just have to get it.

Strengths: easy and classic songs to dance with. it's an easy start.
Weaknesses: personally, i just don't like some of the songs. but like i sais, it's just my opinion.
Summary: i was expecting an old song i danced years ago. i thought this one would have it. but it didn't, so far. i hope it would jump out sometime later. but i doubt it. anyway, this one is a start point for all the newbies. ddr max extreme is much more fun for advanced dancers.

Strengths: Tight dance moves, fast flowing icons
Weaknesses: Not as cool as extreme or ddrmax2
Summary: This was an investment as I own every other DDR Game out there except for Disney Mix. This is a great game with alot of unique music, but why do they have to keep including songs from previous versions... It just doesn't make sense.

Strengths: Fun, addictive game, great music, wide range of difficulty- beginners and experts can get alot out of this
Weaknesses: Requires dance pads to get the right experience, music may turn off those who dislike club, techno music
Summary: This is my first dance dance revolution experience, and I love it. If anything, the scariest thing was the first time I plugged in the pads and tried it out. The arrows seemed totally foreign to me, and I couldn't push the buttons (with my feet) for my life. I'm glad, however, that I didn't give up that miserable evening, because over the next three times I played I got into the groove and the hand of DDR. It's very rewarding, and even at my pathetic newbie stage, I enjoy it immensely.
DDR Max has over 65 songs, many of which are already unlocked. They are all, for the most part, great songs! I'm not sure if its the kind of music one would listen to casually, but you would bop with them in a dance club- and you will here. Once you get adjusted to the spacing of the buttons on the pad, it's practically home free. I'm no expert, but I enjoy the beginner level setting of the songs and can only grow from here. Basically, you CHOOSE the difficulty, and the songs stay the same. As a newcomer, I can play the cool songs on an easier setting, and when I'm ready to move on, just taking the difficulty up a notch (three difficulty settings in all). For the true master of DDR, there is a "ONI" mode, which is sort of a dance till you drop mode- DDR strings songs together and sees how long you last, mistakes taking away a life bar on your meter. It's basically a dance survival mode, and way too hard for me right now. In addition to the normal game is a training mode- good for all levels of mastery, and a song edit moves where you can edit and add your own moves to the songs.
In any case, DDR Max is meant for the dance pad. If have DDR and you can get one, just do it. I've tried DDR games with just a normal controller (and I enjoyed that too) but it's not NEARLY the same. You are meant to dance it out, and it's very fun, especially with another person playing in the versus mode.
Experts will likely enjoy this game very much, but take my word for it, if you've never played DDR and you're thinking about trying it, you really can't lose with this one. I realize the better I get, the more I'll get out of the game but raising the difficulty (basically making harder, more intricate dances to the songs). It can only get better from here. Besides, I heard DDR Max 2 has slower songs than this one, and DDR Extreme uses the EyeToy for certain features, so you if want to get a lot of bang for your buck, DDR Max is a great way to go. Get a pad and get dancing!

Strengths: Good songs. The ability to start out slow and work up.
Weaknesses: Lack of a strong beat on a few of the songs
Summary: This game has been awesome in our house!! My husband wondered why I would purchase this game. Needless to say he used it just as much or more than my children the first day. My three oldest ages, 6,10, & 12 love the game. I feel like it has helped with their coordination while dancing and listening to music. This is a game for both boys and girls. All three of my children are boys. Their cousins are girls and they love to have dance competitions.
I recommend this game for all ages. It is great for getting kids physically active again!!
