Strengths: Good value. Easy to use.
Weaknesses: Doesn't stand upright too well.
Summary: I got a pair of T5420 radios in a blister pack at a local home-improvement store for $49.99 with a $15 rebate (good through 12-31-2003). $35 for a pair of FRS radios, rechargeable batteries, belt clips and a charger base is a pretty good deal. My wife and I have talked over a 1.5-mile distance outdoors. Range is limited when one or both of us is indoors or inside a car (the same will happen with any 0.5-watt, 460-MHz UHF/FM FRS radio, though). The radios are pretty simple to use. The top-mounted volume control knob is nice (no hunting through menu options as with some radios). Communications are clear and the audio is plenty loud enough. Some people will find the "roger beep" annoying, but it's easy to turn it off. Battery life is rated at 27 hours with 3 AA alkalines or 12 hours with the included NiCads.
