Summary: This was a very researched purchase. If you have the money ($200) to upgrade to the 3.5 inch screen I would recommend it but other wise I am completely satisfied with this camcorder.

we bought this camcorder before our trip to yellow ...

Strengths: Very good quality picture, great sound, easy to use, lots of options, lots of effects.

Weaknesses: zoom looses it's power as u get to the max

Summary: we bought this camcorder before our trip to yellowstone. the camcorderworked great, the standart battery lasted much longer than Sony promised. I would recommend this acmcrder to all of my friends

Strengths: Nice picture quality, microphone/headphone/firewire inputs and output, S-video out. Very nice Carl Zeiss glass lens.

Weaknesses: Only a 2.5" screen. Tape mechanism very poorly designed and placed.

Summary: Overall a nice camera. You have to make manual adjustments in difficult lighting environments (such as in a theatre with a spotlight) and they are somewhat difficult to find, but overall this has been a good camcorder. The worst part is that you have to take it off of your tripod, and remove the tripod plate to eject a tape! Ejecting a tape on the underside of the camera is poor design and appears to be an afterthought. Almost as if they made the camera too compact for its own good! For the price and the features however its tough to beat.

Strengths: nice picture, well built, joy to use and operate

Weaknesses: annoying autofocus noise gettting recording onto a tape

Summary: This is a beautifully built camcorder. Nice to touch and very easy to operate. It was returned to the store because it was recording noise from the autofocus. Others have reported the same noise, but not being recorded onto a tape. Mine must have been faulty.

Strengths: Friendly, courteous and quick customer service.

Weaknesses: None so far

Summary: I have not purchased from these folks before and I would definitely do so again!

Ralph (customer service rep) tried to upsell (as I am sure all are told to do) however, when I said I was set and ready to make my purchase - he immediately moved forward in a very friendly, professional and courteous manner.

As a time-starved professional trying to get my christmas shopping done on the company dime - I truly appreciate speed!

Strengths: Sonys great quality, lots of options

Weaknesses: the viewing screen could be 3 to 31/2 inch, but for the price hard to beat.

Summary: 2002-10-09 18:41:48 I ordered a Sony DCR-TRV18 Camcorder from Cameriatopia.com, the best price on the net. The sales person gave me an order conformation number. I was able to track my purchase from the day it left right to the day it came to my front door. From the east coast to the west coast. Along with my purchase I also bought an extended warranty at a discounted price. I had read many of Cameriatopias reviews with mixed emotions, being on two different sides of the globe. But they delivered for me with no hesitation at the price quoted on line. Would I ever buy from them again? With out a doubt. Thanks Cameriatopia.... ALowen
