Strengths: Lots of extras included in package. Good value for the price
Weaknesses: I noticed that some of the buttons a little hard to reach at times. Picture quality suffers in sub-par lighting
Summary: 2003-02-11 19:08:12 I bought my camera from Genesis Camera. They did a great job with me. I would definitely recommend this product and the website to others. You can use this in the dark and still have color. It picks up sound great and zoom works great. The USB connections and the software for my computer work great. Easy to take video and pics from camera to computer.

Strengths: Manual focus ring, good location for manual adjustments, video picture quality.
Weaknesses: No power switch lock! Often accidently turn on in bag and lose battery life, (lock for memory mode only does not make any sense). Not very compact for "compact DVcam".
Summary: I really like this camera, and have been using it for some time now. It records some really great images in daylight, and for lowlight, it's really pretty good, with little grain - a whole lot better than what comes in smaller cameras with smaller lenses. I bought this camera after returning another Sony cam that was smaller with all functions on the touch screen (can't remember which model). I couldn't stand having all the controls on the touch screen. If you want to do anything more than just point and shoot your video, those touch screen controls are impossible. So I ended up with this and am very happy with it. I do wish it was smaller, like the new models that are touch screen, but in the end, I'd rather have the control with a little extra size.

Strengths: High quality image. Good remote control, Flexible connections, manual focus ring
Weaknesses: No FireWire cable. no rear IR receiver, Some buttons could be larger.
Summary: The Sony Digital Camcorder TRV DCR25 fits between the TRV18 and the TRV27. The TRV25 seems the logical choice for both price and features. Sure it has a 2.5" LCD instead of the 3.5" on the TRV27. But when you are outside any LCD is difficult to see and you are better off using the viewfinder. My only gripe ( and this is not limited to Sony) is that the DIGITAL camcorder does not come with the necessary DIGITAL cable to connect to my Macintosh's FireWire port. Instead they want another $30.00. However I give bonus points for all the A/V, S-VHS, USB, External Mic,iLink, and firewire ports. A few small problems: the power/standby/vcr selector switch is a little on the small side, and Why don't they put IR (remote control) receivers on the back of the camera too? overall a very pleasant out of the box experience.

Strengths: Good price for quality and features
Weaknesses: Picture quality suffers in poor light
Summary: I got this camera from B&H Photo for $615 after rebate. If you are shopping for a camera in that price range, I doubt you find one better than this. It has a great picture, takes pretty good stills, comes with a memory stick, and is very handy. The batteries report to the camera how much juice they have left, and the tape tells you how much time it has left, you always know how much longer you have to shoot.

This camera loves my computer, it came with a USB cable and when I hook it up to my computer, the memory stick mounts as a drive and I can just copy the JPGs right to my computer. The USB also enables your camera work as a webcam. Once you get a firewire cable, you can dump your video right to your computer, but what's even better is that through your camera you can hookup a VCR or any other composite input and use the camera and firewire input the capture those images as well.
