Strengths: Great picture quality under good lighting. Built in editing is excellent. Capturing on firewire to PC for editing is a cinch.
Weaknesses: Video quality under low light is not very good. Image tends to wash out...
Summary: 2003-09-21 16:55:17 Overall it's a great camcorder. I tape weddings and all other special events with it and I can't complain.. ..Great cam. Low video qaulity under low light has it's advantages. It helps you play with lighting effex, especially in my field of work. I strongly recommend one....If you can still find one. Good Luck......

Strengths: Mini DV, Large LCD, Mega Pixal stills, High actually video pixal rate, good color (for a single CCD), color view finder, great nightshot, great audio, price, and its a sony.
Weaknesses: only single CCD
Summary: Great camera for the price. Its has good audio and video quality. Mini DV it records on a two inch digital tape, the best tape and only tape that should be used by people serious about digital quality. Is has a pretty high pixel rate and good color for having a singal CCD. A solid camera and a great choice. And for all you who don't know very much about cameras it does have a lot of digital effects but please, please don't shop for effects, a camera's value comes from the video quality not the effects it can do, almost all new cameras can do the exactly the same effects anyway and you'll most likely never use them. Oh and be fooled by a salesman to buy a camera because it has a long zoom, the long zoom is a digital zoom which distorts the picture. So saying that its a good camera and i recommend it to any body, but if you are really serious and happen to have another grand I would go with the DCR-VX2000. Oh one more thing when if you're camera shopping and you don't really know what you're doing stay away from JVC and Panisonic and stick to Cannon and Sony.

Strengths: large lcd, lots of ports (in and out), very good video quality, good still pic quality, good sound (when recording voice or not overcrowded enviroments only)
Weaknesses: not to record live music (because of the mic); mpeg record feature is low quality and drop-frame, i don't recommend to use this feature, you're better off recording directly to minidv tapes.
Summary: I've been using this camcorder for over 2 months and I'm really satisfied with it's video quality; I'm using a sub 50 dollars firewire card to capture video, and the quality is great; even when you use your cam to capture analog video, the quality is really good; the only thing i suggest is not use it's microphone to record loud music or anything like that (like a live concert), since it gets too distorted and you can almost understand nothing; except that, this product is a good choice

3 Star ReviewI had a recurring problem with the video head beco ...
Strengths: High lines of resolution, lightweight, audio, picture and color reproduction excellent.
Weaknesses: I had a reocurring problem with the video head becoming dirty and shutting down unit.
Summary: I had a recurring problem with the video head becoming dirty and shutting down unit, while recording using new tapes. This happened twice. It problem seems to manifest in the camera when I tape for long periods, like one hour or more. The video quality on the monitor would deplete and then eventually the camera would shut down. After the first time, I returned the camera to Circuit City and purchased a head cleaner. After the second time, I returned it, and then purchased it at a different store, thinking maybe that store had a bad batch. I'm on the third one now, so I'll keep you posted as to how this one works out.

Strengths: Compact size, remote control, USB streaming, huge LCD screen, A/V-to-Digital converter
Weaknesses: No i.Link (FireWire) cable included, steep price
Summary: Camera takes excellent video. It has good LCD playback capabilities and playback on a TV using the remote control is great (saves on battery power). USB streaming option is nice and it has a lot of editing capabilities. Overall rating is excellent!
