Strengths: great value to safety/reliability ratio. Incredibly simple to install and use the software. User replaceable battery. Very effective and sensitive. It can level out flux in the power service.
Weaknesses: Product is heavy to have shipped. Battery life rating is exaggerated, which all UPS companies do.
Summary: Overall this is a great UPS. Borrowing a tag line from some ad.. "You set it, and forget it".
It is incredibly simple to install. Just plug the devices to be on battery into the 4 receptacles on one side, and other stuff just needing surge protection into the 4 receptacles on the other side. If you plan on using the surge protection for cable, or LAN you may want to make some custom length cables. Or find some short lengths at a store. Figure out your wiring! Myself I use a cable modem, and have a TV tuner in the PC. So i needed 4 short lengths of cable. 1 - wall to APC, 2 - APC to splitter, 3 - splitter to PC, and 4 - splitter to cable modem.
If you shop around for price and free shipping you can get a great deal on these. The free shipping is key because this thing is heavy.
As for the battery life there is plenty to give you a few minutes to close applications and then shut the machine down safely. WHICH IS THE POINT of why you buy a home UPS! If you have XP the machine can use hibernate mode and the files are safe automatically. In fact when the power comes back the machine is supposed to power on, open files, and return to exactly the same state as when it turned off! tre cool eh?
Do not expect the battery life rating to be genuine. They describe ideal or unreal conditions so the ratings are all wrong in this industry as a whole. You can never get that uptime in the real world. Assume you will be getting half of what they rate. I have a monster Dell XPS, 20" LCD, Cable modem and Cable Router plugged into the battery side. When tested I probably get 12 to 15 min of up time. If you have a CRT monitor attached you are going to get considerably less. By now you should be getting an LCD anyway if think you are needing a UPS.
So in short do not buy this if you have visions of using your desktop for a couple of hours while everyone else is experiencing a blackout! Either buy a laptop or buy a generator. You will be far happier.
This is a great UPS. APC supports and stands buy their product. You will never go back to not having the security of a UPS.

Strengths: Has 4 battery-protected and 4 surge-only outlets, with ample power capacity and run time for connected equipment.
Weaknesses: Product battery is heavy. Not recommended for shipping. Replaceable lead-acid sealed battery requires disposal via recycler.
Summary: 2005-07-08 22:51:17 This UPS provides 4 power conditioning and battery backup outlets and 4 surge protection outlets, ideal for a single computer with connected peripherals. The eight total outlets include two outlets to support large power transformers. Used to protect my Media Center PC that requires a continuous internet and Coaxial cable connection. Has built-in coax/ethernet/phone/fax/modem line protection and easy-to-install safe system shutdown software. A good value for home entertainment center computers.

Strengths: Easy to set up. Does exactly what it says. Saves your computer.
Weaknesses: None
Summary: I purchased an APC UPS system in the past and it does remarkably well considering I live in Southwest Florida, which is basically the lightning capital of the country. It also made it through all the hurricanes we had last year. I upgraded to this bigger one since it was getting time to replace the battery after four years and I have a more powerful computer than I did four years ago. You can't go wrong for the price or with the company.

Strengths: VERY, VERY, VERY easy to set up.
Weaknesses: None, I have seen.
Summary: 2005-10-29 01:35:31 First, let me say. Before you ever buy anything do your research and check other user's reviews whenever you can. Now, having said that skip the reviews and definitely buy this product. It worked well when I connected my cable high speed internet, my pc, 19 inch LCD monitor and Canon Printer-yes printer.
I did my reviews in the beginning and now I am happy for that. I also checked reviews at cnet.com on this product. So, my decision is not biased. The unit did hum a little but it is so low that you have to put your ear really close to it or be a dog to hear it. Really.
In short, concerning this product my statement to you is, what are you waiting for.

Strengths: Compact size. Number of Outlets.
Weaknesses: Available only in dark color, including cord.
Summary: This product has performed as advertised. It is being used on HDTV, DVD Recorder, TiVo, VCR and Amplifier. Thus far there have been numerous power outages, during which the product has provided power to the devices withoug fail. This has protected the bulb in the HDTV by providing cooling fan power. It has also eliminated having to reprogram digital clocks and TiVo.

Strengths: Surge protection for phone, coax, Ethernet as well as UPS for devices. Auto shutdown software and 8 outlets.
Weaknesses: None so far.
Summary: Some of the UPS's have only 6 outlets and don't allow for transformer blocks but this one allows for 2 transformer blocks and 8 outlets. The price was great for what it can do. Maybe the price of UPS's is coming down, but due to the weight and hence the cost of shipping they seemed to have stayed somewhat high. Overall, I've used APC for years and have no complaints!

Summary: It was very easy to install and includes a cable and monitoring software. It is cosmetically appealing. Plug and play... Nice software! APC has an excellent reputation.

 FALSE ADVERTISING!!! Strengths: Backs up battery for a short time, and surges at the same time
Weaknesses: VERY VERY SHORT BATTERY BACKUP TIME
Summary: On the box it says up to 60min of backup time. But BEWARE! unless you don't use a super energy efficient desktops that and are using a 15 or less inches of energy efficient LCD monitor, you won't get 60 minutes. I have a 19" CRT monitor, and a 1.5ghz desktop. I thought i would get at least 10min of power but NO! I can barely get 3min of power. OK, i guess thats enough time to save your documents and turn off your computer. If you are buying this, buy this for backup, not your solution to computing in the dark when power is out. I hope i was helpful!

Strengths: Great price from a trustworthy company. Space for lots of plugs. Strong steady power for what I need it for.
Weaknesses: The thing is really heavy and big!
Summary: Love having the security of this wonderful little product. I have VOIP in my house, so if I lose power I lose my phone. I have mine backing up my broadband modem, wireless router, and VOIP adapter. That way even if we lose power, these devices get strong and steady power even in an outage. And I don't lose my phone! (Which my wife loves) Overall this was a great purchase at a great price. I will probably be buying a couple more for my cable box upstairs and for my computer and printer. I love the security knowing my electric items will be backed up in case of an emergency. Wonderful product, I highly reccommend.

Strengths: At least 1 hour of runtime. More if you you are using it to connect to your cable modem or switch. Detects wiring faults. 2 outlets for power bricks.
Weaknesses: None. Works as advertised
Summary: Not the most exciting piece of equipment, but a necessary one. You will be thankful when you have that first black/brownout. I had to purchase this one to make sure my VOIP phone service worked even when the power went out. I use it to keep my cable modem, switch, and phones powered up.

Strengths: Compact, quiet, capable
Weaknesses: None
Summary: Installed in minutes.
Connected to Backup/Surge: Computers, monitor, cable modem.
Connected to Surge only: Printer, speakers, scanner.
Fired everything up, then pulled the plug on the UPS -- Both computer systems stayed up, non-essentials were off. Beautiful.
I also purchased this product to smooth out the sags and spikes in the power line, especially when power equipment is being used in the neighborhood.
