Strengths: Great Sound. Endless features. Excellent wheel mount remote, 6.5v outputs, XM/MP3 great display...but
Weaknesses: expensive. to bright at night. To dim in daylight. It has an auto dimmer that dims when the lights are turned on, but GM lights are on all the time...
Summary: 2003-03-06 09:22:59 Beware the one dollar installs... My wife and I experienced that awful buyers regret when we first heard the unit right after installation. It sounded terrible, no better than my stock GM radio. There was very little sound going to the rear speakers and setting the fader did nothing to resolve the problem. The installers were clueless. Before installing the unit, take time to read the owner's manual. The 1$ installers told me that they would have to rewire the rear speakers directly to the unit and would charge me an additional $30 to do so. NO WAY! I insisted. While the installers scratched their heads, I read the manual. I found that the microprocessor within the P940MP needs to be reset after installation. I pointed this out, and after resetting the microprocessor the front rear balance was restored. The sound was better but still not what I was expecting from a unit this expensive. After driving home, I connected the supplied microphone to the unit and ran the "auto-equalization curve", a process that automatically measures the interior acoustic characteristics of the vehicle. After running the equalization THE SOUND WAS AMAZING. (This should have been setup by the $1 guys) THIS UNIT IS SOPHISTICATED. We enjoyed the sound so much that we spent the next 3 hours partying in our driveway while we continued exploring the multitude of features and display options of the P940MP. We had to force ourselves to go in the house that evening.
