Strengths: Easy to use
Weaknesses: just a tiny bit bulky
Summary: Love my camcorder, but don't lose the software, it's hard to find the replacement. I have been searching the internet for approx. 2-3 months to locate the software and cannot find it. Other than that, all is good!!!

Strengths: Excellent picture quality. Best image quality for the price. Megapixel, 520 lines resolution. Fair digital image quality for a camcorder.
Weaknesses: A bit bulky. No color viewfinder.
Summary: The dcr-trv-740 is perhaps the best camcorder available in its price range. With superb image quality(520 lines, mega pixel CCD) even in low light situations, manual exposure control, and a host of other features, this camera is a delight to own. I was considering the trv840, which adds a bigger screen and progressive scan. However, these features do not really affect the overall picture quality. One of the best things I like about this camcorder is that, I can play older 8mm tapes, and still have the same quality of minidv video. In addition, hi8 tapes cost a lot less than minidv.

I would not recommend buying this camera from any of the On-line "New York" camera shops. I tried several times to find one that looked legitimate. However, after speaking to many of the sales people, it turned out many of the shops where advertising cameras that they did not have in stock. Very poor customer service. I picked mine up at sears for about $720.
