Strengths: Easily controls everything. Nice touch features.
Weaknesses: Had to "learn" almost everything (even Sony's own components). Limited fixed label descriptions, only a few remaining buttons where you can edit the label. This thing is BIG!
Summary: Nice, I haven't found a function it couldn't learn yet. Did do what i hoped it would by replacing all my remotes. Unfortunately it required a lot of time to setup because it had to learn everything. The preset codes didn't work on all components and when it did, not all the buttons or functions were there that I wanted. Labeling is also a bit cumbersome if one of the preset labels won't work for you. Macro function doesn't work to power on multiple devices or on "learned" functions. The unit is also a bit bulky and looks like it will be tough on batteries. Manual is also very hard to follow. Avoid list price ($200) its too inflated and you can find plenty for $100 (bought mine refurbished from eCost for $79!)

Strengths: Works as advertised. Replaced 5 remotes with this. I like it very much.
Weaknesses: Hard to see the display with out the lcd light on. Manual is not great, but not as bad as some may say.
Summary: Finally, I have one remote that works the Receiver, DVD, VCR, Digital Cable Box, Tape, and TV. I read some reviews that complained about the manual and the inabiltiy to do PIP. This thing is so easy to use that one glance at the manual is enough to figure it out. The PIP works fine. I have a Sony Wega 36HS500 and all I had to do for the PIP was to have the remote 'learn' the feature. It took me all of 30 minutes to get the remote configured to work everything. ps.. Don't pay list price. Too many places to get this for under $110.

Strengths: Nice design and this will work with every component in your system, regardless of who made it.
Weaknesses: Very hard to see the screen without the backlight, it's also rather big and heavy when compared with a traditional remote.
Summary: I bought a refurbished model of this from ecost for $79 and I couldn't be happier. I was rather worried that I wouldn't get it to work with my Skyworth DVD player since it's a rather rare DVD player, but with the "learn" function you can get this thing to work with ANY brand. If you can't seem to get the right preset control, just set it to any preset and and use the learn function to teach it the entire remote control. You can configure it to perform a ton of functions with one button press. The instruction manual is rather badly written though, but it's passable, just read slowly and do it several times.

Strengths: cool looking - great street price (
Weaknesses: NOT compatable with Sony's own ES line of receivers!
Summary: Bought a new Sony STR-5000ES receiver and it
won't work with it or any ES receiver.
BTW, the user manual is typically Sony...absolutely
the worst - cheap paper, terse and vague instructions,
poor English and many features not explained or
even mentioned.

Strengths: Ease of operation once programmed.
Weaknesses: Some functions don't react quick enough. Like changing channels. It would be nice if the light came on automatically when a button was touched, 'cause you cant see the screen without the light on.
Summary: Overall a very good unit. It can definately handle tons of equipment. I have it programmed for 5 things and can probably get 12 more if needed. Get one. You'll like it.

I've had it!
Strengths: Once programmed, it can control the entire equipment in your house. Easy to program, but take a lot of time to complete. Has to learn everything, even the new Sony equipments.
Weaknesses: Crashed on me twice over a year, factory reset the unit by itself. I've to re-program everything again. Unthinkable, since it consolidate more than 8 remotes.
Summary: Pay a lot of money for it. I'm not going through the pain again and willing to junk the 'Commander'. I owned a lot of Sony equipments, this one I hate.

Strengths: It really does control all my electronics — even the non Sony ones.
Weaknesses: very difficult to see the on-screen controls
Summary: It controls all my components but using some features can be a chore. That's not necessarily the fault of this remote because they were a pain using the components' original remotes too. It's not possible — at least as far as I can tell — to switch discs in multi-disc components (even those from Sony). The screen is near impossible to read without the backlight and not much better when it's lit. Also, the light goes out too quickly to allow hunting for unfamiliar controls. On the plus side, the thing is sturdy. I've dropped mine a few times and it has withstood the punishment. I like the bigger buttons too. Many remotes I've tried have such small buttons that it's difficult to poke just one. It's also stable on the table! You can push any control without having the thing wobble all over the place. (A pet peeve of mine.)

Strengths: Can handle any command you program or teach it. Has a great pre-programed package. Good instruction booklet. SONY
Weaknesses: Screen hard to see with out light on, using light makes it hard on batteries.
Summary: This remote has taken me from 5 remotes down to one, it does everything I need it to do. The touch screen has good spacing, so anyone with large fingers should not have a problem hitting two buttons at once. Remote controls my TV, DVR, Amp, DVD and Satellite box. I can turn them on with one button or individually. Using rechargeable battries will solve the battery issue.
This is a great remote. I would recommend this product to anyone.

Strengths: Good looking
Weaknesses: Too big. Light is not bright enough. Does not have same buttons as actual remotes.
Summary: The units looks nice but the light is dim so it is difficult to see the touch screen. This is especially true when you want to enter numbers into the touch screen number pad.

Strengths: Easy to program, easy to see in darken room, sturdy construction, solid feel.
Weaknesses: Hard on batteries, but just buy rechargables, problem solved. Large physical size, some might not like it.
Summary: I wanted a fully programable universal learning remote, to cleanup the eight remotes laying around my living room. I looked at the Philips Pronto, but decided that it was way too complex. I read a review of the Sony RM-AV300 on remotecentral.com (check it out)and decided to buy it. Its great, took me a couple of hours to FULLY program it, and it has learned all of my remotes functions. I even control a ceiling fan and my lights with it. I highly recommend this remote.

Strengths: Street price is very low versus features. Component macros.
Weaknesses: Some operations do not work as advertised but if you repeat it several times, it eventually wakes up and accepts the operation. Documentation is poor.
Summary: This remote took me about two days to get it to do everything. It was necessary to use discrete codes to get macros to work well and some A/V equipment, like all Toshiba, didn't support discrete on/off codes. However, it works quite well. I strongly suggest that you go to remotecentral.com for information on programming the AV3000. This web site was quite useful for me.

Strengths: Ease of use, complete controls.
Weaknesses: Price. Manual is HORRIBLE.
Summary: The three only things I can criticize about the remote is price - I got it at a great price from aaxes.com, though. An MSRP of $200 is way too high. The manual is awful and confusing; a barely literate technogeek had to write it. And then there is one thing with the physical layout... the +/- buttons for both the volume and channel should be in each others' places. When you are handling it one-handed, unless you are double-jointed, you can't change the channel with your thumb and HAVE to hold it with both hands.
