Strengths: Nice size, HDMI input, decent speakers and great price
Weaknesses: No DVI (although HDMI/DVI cable takes care of that), speaker are a bit weak and a cheap stand.
Summary: Bought this monitor from Staples when they had it for $189.99 AR and then added on the Staples Coupon. The first monitor I received had one stuck green pixel, but I got a replacement and it has no stuck/dead pixels or bleeding.

The picture looks great, even when using the VGA input. HDMI is a great option for those wanting to use this with a PS3/XBox360. Although it's 16:10, I hear that the consoles look great with this. Although there is a lack of a DVI input, an HDMI/DVI cable can be bought for pretty cheap now so that really isn't an issue.

As other reviewers said, the stand is very cheap which causes the whole monitor to shake when pressing any of the menu or on/off buttons. Also, the base of the stand is very close to the VGA/HDMI input which makes it tough to put adapters there.

The speakers are alright for someone that is just looking for basic sound but don't expect anything great from these.

All in all, for the price, I really have nothing to complain about with this monitor and am very pleased with the purchase.

Strengths: HDMI, Vibrant Colors, Dark Blacks, Wide Screen
Weaknesses: Stand, Speakers, No DVI Connection
Summary: 2008-02-21 21:09:55 First off I'd like to address arctann's post:

The drivers on the CD that come with the monitor DO support XP, you just need to manually install them. Without the drivers, your video card will not output the proper 1680x1050 resolution. Right click on your desktop, and click Properties. Click on the Settings tab, Advanced, Monitor tab, Properties, Driver tab, Update Driver, if it asks you to check windows update, check no, then Install form a list or specific location, Don't search, Have Disk, then browse to the folder HG216_Vistainf32 on your provided CD and open the file Hannstar_HG216_driver.inf. Click Next, Continue Anyway, and finish. Close the Hannstar HG216 Properties window, click OK on the window beneath that, and now try to set the resolution slider all the way to the right. it should stop at 1680x1050.

Secondly the weaknesses:

1. The stand is garbage compared to most stands that come with 21-22inch LCD's these days, but if you aren't needing to adjust it too often, you can get by with setting it and forgetting it.

2. Speakers are also garbage, but I didn't buy this monitor for it's speakers, and I have a set of speakers that work just fine, so I don't mind it (because I don't use it).

3. No DVI Connection - This can be remedied fairly simply with a DVIHDMI cable, I picked up one from monoprice.com for just $7 shipped

Lastly, this is a solid monitor with crisp vibrant colors if you use a Digital Connection (HDMI), I haven't tested the monitors VGA connection so I can't speak on that.

Worth the $$$ spent, and I would purchase another if i needed it.

Strengths: Good PRICE, Good size, Widescreen, Crips/vivid display, HDMI input, Very good colors and brightness. Great graphics, no dead pixel on the whole screen.
Weaknesses: The speaker is weak, no DVI input, lcd stand shaky, sometime the screen is a little fuzzy, don't know how to adjust it.
Summary: 2008-02-18 01:30:07 I love this big lcd monitor, it's a monitor also a TV for me, we watched a lot of movie on it, I am happy with it even the speaker is kind weak.Really happy there is no any dead pixel on the whole screen; but there is a problem for me, the screen is a little fuzzy sometime, at begining I think it is bacause I work too hard, but my friend said he also felt it's fuzzy, don't know how to adjust it.

3 Star ReviewHannsG HG216DPB 22" Black Widescren LCD Monitor
Strengths: good price for the size
Weaknesses: lcd stand a little shaky,
Summary: Well, for the price this is a good deal. I plugged into my duo core pc, it works great. However, when i switched to an older model pc (3 years-old), the color becomes dull. No matter what adjustment I applied, the picture remains to be pale. So, if buyers purchase this for a somewhat older pc, this is not a good buy. in addition, the lcd stand is a little shaky.

Strengths: price, HDMI, speakers
Weaknesses: stand, dead pixel
Summary: I have this for about little more than a week, it works great on it's native resolution, but awful other than that. I think all the LCD monitor has the similar issue.

I hook up mine with HDMI cable, the picture is great, and sound is acceptable, good for both computer monitor and HD monitor.

The stand is not stable, and a dead pixel on the top right corner.

Strengths: Widescreen, includes speakers, no dead pixels.
Weaknesses: Wobbly, Slightly difficult assembly. Height of viewable are is shorter than 19" non-widescreen.
Summary: First the negatives:

1. Assembling is a little difficult. The monitor is not so easy to get into the base because handling the large screen is cumbersome.

2. Viewable height is 11 & 1/2", whereas the Hanns-G 19" non-widescreen is 11 & 7/8". This will take some getting used to (see my image for comparison).

3. Monitor wobbles to the slightest movement of your desk; this is due to the weight of the monitor and flimsyness of the base. This doesn't matter if you're going to do a wall mount. FYI, the holes are 100mm x 100mm if you're going to size a wall-mount.

Now the positives:

1. Both Hanns-G monitors I have do not have dead or stuck pixels! I've had the 19" for half a year now. The 22" I just got, but so far, so good!

2. Monitor sits low to the desk, 3 & 3/4" from the desk to the viewable area. This allows you to add more height if necessary by putting things under the base. This is a Pro because if the height were large, the only way to lower it is to lower your desk, or chop the base.

3. Large viewable area allows great workspace. Thesedays, many applications have "sidebars" where the search results are or things like that (Adobe reader for example). Widescreen is the solution.

4. HDMI port, and includes a VGA cable & port. So, you can hook it up right away, and if you want high-performance later, you can always get an HDMI cable.

5. EnergyStar compliant. This saves you money in the end.

Note about the image. The monitors are SIDE-BY-SIDE. You can tell the 22" sits lower than the 19" which to me is an advantage.

Strengths: THE PRICE, Good size, Widescreen, Crips/vivid display, HDMI input
Weaknesses: Wobbly stand, slight backlight bleeding on the top edge, Speakers are bad, no DVI, no XP drivers on installation CD
Summary: 2008-02-06 22:21:56 My experience with this monitor didn't start out well because my original had 3 stuck (not dead) pixels. However, the company I bought it from replaced it with a new monitor the next day and so far no stuck or dead pixels.

The size of the monitor is nice, however, the stand is pretty cheap. The whole monitor wobbles everytime I hit the power button.

The picture is crisp and vivid. Also, widescreen is definitely way to go being the HD era and all. The factory color settings are way too blue so calibrating the monitor settings (i.e. color, brightness, contrast, etc.) was a little annoying cause it took a bit of time. There is slight backlight bleeding on the top edge which is particularly noticeable when the background is mostly black.

The HDMI input is nice, but the lack of DVI is a drawback. Granted you can buy a HDMI-> DVI cable, so it's not that big a problem.

The speakers are pretty much worthless, which doesn't really matter when using VGA or DVI, but if you're using an HDMI input (which includes audio) you're out of luck.

Also, this didn't affect me, but the installation CD doesn't come with XP drivers, only Vista. Luckily for me my video card is able to handle the 1680x1050 resolution with no problems on XP.

Granted there are better 22" monitors out there, but for the price, I consider this a very good buy.

Strengths: HDMI port, speaker include
Weaknesses: sound quality is not very good
Summary: I have been using this monitor for several months and satisfied with it. It has HDMI port and my video card has HDMI port too. If your pc has only DVI port, you can also use the DVI-HDMI cable to hook up it with the monitor.

It has speakers build in, which is convenient and saved the space on my desk. However, you should not expect the top-line quality of sound.

The blue power-on light sometimes becomes annoying if the room is dark.

The price is good. It worth the money.

Strengths: Crisp text, Good colors, DVI
Weaknesses: none
Summary: This is an excellent monitor for the low price it goes for. Very good resolution with crisp text and vibrant colors and fast enough response time. I run two of these and they look beautiful. this is the perfect size for normal desktop use. highly recommended.

Strengths: HDMI Connection, Sleek Design, Excellent Price to Size Ratio
Weaknesses: Cheap Stand, No Pure DVI connection, Some color fading on the edges
Summary: This is a very solid LCD Monitor. While there are certainly better monitors out in the market, I would definitely put this on the short list of top monitors under $200. I got this shipped from Staples. There wasn't any dead pixel, but there was a tiny scratch on the top edge. I have not tested with HDMI connection, but the VGA seemed pretty solid. Color and overall picture need a bit adjusting for the right mix. There seemed to be some color fading on the edge of the screen. The stand is also very wobbly and there may be some built quality questions down the road (one of the edge didn't look completely hammered in). However, overall for the price (after coupon and gift cards), it was very well worth it. I would definitely recommend this monitor for those who are in need of a 22" and short on cash.

Strengths: HDMI. 3-year warranty. Built-in stereo speakers.
Weaknesses: Can't think of any.
Summary: I use this LCD in my bedroom, where there is a work desk next to the bed. The monitor is connected to my laptop through VGA and DVD player via HDMI. When I'm working at the desk, this LCD is my second monitor. When I go to bed, I just turn the LCD 90 degrees so that it faces the bed, and turn on the DVD player. Movies are crisp sharp across the 22" panel. Of course, the built-in speakers are not meant for movies, so my DVD player is hooked to my stereo system. I'm very satisfied with this purchase.

Strengths: Good price, great picture, wider screen, cristal color
Weaknesses: the lower right hand corner signal light is too sharp
Summary: I switched to this monitor in less than 2 monthes after I purchased the widescreen CIBOX 22''. The two monitors are way different in terms of the resolution and quality. Both monitor came with no dead or stuck pixels, but the Cibox questions me by its uneven brightness, which i mean, the brightness is stronger one side than the other. Hanns G does not have this problem. I am quite satisfied with its cristal brightness evenly displayed on the whole screen. No headache at the first sight. Good on it's native resolution although it can reach 1680x1050 resolution with some settings. I have nothting to complain about its speaker since i rarely watch movies or play games. It's quite worthy for the money i paid ( $180). A widescreen mornitor 22'' with HDMI input, speakers and most important of all, the great resolution. This is my first HannsG product, I am happy with it over all.

3 Star ReviewHanns-G did I get a Lemon?
Strengths: Great resolution, crisp, no fuzz
Weaknesses: only HDMI and VGA inputs, no DVI goes black???
Summary: I received this monitor from a major office supply store on a great sale with a great rebate. It has worked great doe the first few weeks. very crisp, and clean. As I said it does NOT have a DVI input, so you'll have to buy a HDMI to DVI cable or connector. I am now getting some problems though. It seems that after the monitor is running for a while the screen will go black. I thought it was the new PSU/GPU I was using in my desktop, but I switched everything back, and I still get the same problem. I haven't heard anyone else with this problem, so I think I may have gotten a lemon. I intend to exchange this for the same monitor, as I really liked it before the problem. I'll try to update to let you know if I am getting the same problem with the new monitor.

2 Star ReviewHanns-G 22" LCD monitor
Strengths: HDMI, price
Weaknesses: Quaility
Summary: I connected this monitor by VGA because I don't have a HDMI port in my graphic card. I was a little dispointed with the quality compared to my another Samsung 225BW monitor. I tried changing display settings but not improved much. Display is not that clear. You will get whay you paid for. I will try HDMI when I have a new graphic card.

Strengths: This LCD is absolutely amazing for the price. Great picture quality and a large bright screen.
Weaknesses: None
Summary: Whoa...this is my second Hanns-G product. I purchased 19"" a year ago & loved it. This is an excellent monitor for the money. The features and stats make this more than worth the price. I highly recommend this for any 360 owner looking for a cheap HD solution. It is nothing short of amazing. Windows XP detects right away, and allows to go to 1680x1050 right away. You will not be disappointed with this monitor, the biggest bang for your buck.
