Strengths: Great Display, Loud and Crisp Sound, Fast Song Transfers, small and good looking design, Rechargeable battery
Weaknesses: battery doesnt last that long
Summary: when i got my mp3 player at first i couldn't connect it, so i had to wait and go to one of my friends house and use it there. once i got it connected i formated the songs and got it to work. i had to listen to those songs for like 2 weeks until i finally called my local computer store and they got my usb ports to work and for the first time i had a full stick of mp3s. after that i had no problems and i think it is the best mp3 player that i have owned.

Strengths: Small, light weight, sound quality, LED display
Weaknesses: Battery needs to be removed to charge, buttons small
Summary: This is the first MP3 player I have ever owned. I also have a Sony Vaio. I like Sony products and buy them all the time. I admit, the software that is set up for this unit is easy to use but limited to Sony products only. I have not downloaded any music from the online site to put into the memory of the MP3 player. But, a friend emailed a song to me in MP3 format and Sonicstage (Sony's software) would not let me open it to transfer. I have to look into this. I have been transferring songs to the unit buy recording from Cd's to my hard drive using the Sonicstage software and then transferring the songs to the unit. It takes 2mins per song if that! Really cool.

I like the small design. It looks and feels nice. Only problem is there are some function buttons on the side that are really small and to click them you have to examine them closely and then hope your finger pushes the button when you press.

The LED is cool lighting up blue and it will scroll the music information (song, title, album, genre, artist, time remaining, speed recorded) if you program it before recording with Sonicstage.

The USB plugs right in and no problems with the cover that is metal and easy to open/close.

Battery time could be an issue. I might buy an extra battery just to have two in case one dies. I have another memory stick on order but figure this: I put 12 song on the card I have now and recorded them at medium quality (105 bpm) and I still have 84MB of space left on the card.

1 Star ReviewThe claim of this device is that playable formats ...
Strengths: A handy storage device for 128 megabytes of STUFF (But not MUSIC)
Weaknesses: Uses some kind of PROPRIETARY format- you absolutely CANNOT use conventional methods to move music into this device (Windows Medias Player, MusicMatch Jukebox, Mp3.com's 'Transfer 2 Device,' etc.)
Summary: 2002-10-24 12:06:38 The claim of this device is that playable formats include "ATRAC3, MP3, WMA, WAV" but none of these file types will play unless converted somehow using something called OpenMG player 2.x OpenMG 2.x is not available anywhere. On the Sony site there are very vague and complex instructions for using "Real One Player" to transfer the music- Instructions that do not work when followed to the letter. A portable player should be able to play what plays on your computer, and in fact ALL other portable players DO. Sony stands alone in this and although it is probably a nifty device, Betamax were nifty devices also and I see this product going in that direction (the direction of extinction).

Generally, I am behind Sony entertainment products as being superior, and this Item also would be if it were not stuck utilising a PROPRIETARY format.

My input to Sony would be: Make devices that are compatible with what else is being used by consumers, and, provide a firmware update for this device that will allow it to play what music is stored on the MG Memory stick- Regardless of how it got there.

Strengths: It's very small and easy to carry with you everywhere. I like it because I'm a runner and it's small enough for me to just hold in my hand while i'm running.
Weaknesses: Battery doesn't hold charge very long.
Summary: There are still a lot of things that have to be perfected about it. It's still pretty new and the technology for it isn't great. When I got it, there was a conflict with my computer and it's software for about three months, and the company said they would fix it but it took them that long and they never called us back, we had to call them again.
