Strengths: Looks good works great lots of features. Has two diffrent fastforward speeds. Easy to program.
Weaknesses: Sony EP mode has problems playing tapes recorded in SLP from other VCR's
Summary: This is a very good VCR. It is easy to program and has commercial ckip (Very handy). The two fastforward speeds are also very handy. I wish that the the counter counted in real time when working in ep mode instead of always counting as if it was in sp mode.

Strengths: Reliable, good quality, ease of use
Weaknesses: none
Summary: I have used this product for over 5 months and I am so happy with it that I am ordering another identical unit. This product has functioned flawlessly with great quality even though I had purchased a refurbished one

Strengths: Low Price , Sony QC , Stereo hi-fi sound.
Weaknesses: Size .. it looks little big in size & the Remote button change over for TV is not a push button.(just a minor annoyance)
Summary: Auto Clock, Sony quality at a very low price, quick-set recording is a great, convenient way to quickly set for recording without even having to turn the tv on, the flash-rewind. I haven't had any problems so far .. I have done the Stress testing on this piece too..

Strengths: Sony quality and features. The condition for a recondition unit was good. Thre unit is being used as VCR analog input to digital conversion process to migrate VHS tapes into DVDs.
Weaknesses: None thus far.
Summary: Great value for the type of Sony product. Even as a refurbished unit Sony quality is very apparent. Very satisfied with the purchase. It is exactly what I was after and suggest anyone in the market to look at this great bargain.

Strengths: Looks good. The high speed rewind works well. Typical Sony menus- easy to use.
Weaknesses: Build quality- The outer casing seems to use cheap materials.
Summary: This is an overall great VCR. The silver color and front layout look nice. It is nice that it matches Sony Wega's.

Operation of the VCR has no real suprises- menus are easy to use (especially if you've used Sony VCRs in the past). The Auto Clock never would set automatically for me, but no big deal, I just set manually.

My only real complaint is the cheap looking case. Sony really scrimped on the quality here, but for the price I can't complain too much.

This is a great VCR, worth buying.

Strengths: Style, Sony's reputation, Features, Everything...
Weaknesses: There will never be any, I think...
Summary: I love this VCR. The best VCR I've ever owned. I initially bought the cheapest model from Panasonic, which is the PV-V4022, cause I would just use it in my room and i figured it would be just fine to use a not-that-expensive VCR. But I was wrong, the Panasonic VCR was the WORST one i've ever used. It was so cheap-looking, and the tape-eject mechanism malfunctioned after like 4 days of using it. It is going back to where it came from. I returned it to the store, and being a big SONY fan, I checked out the VCR's from them. I saw the SLV-N55, SLV-N77, SLV-N88, and SLV-N99. Of all these, only the SLV-N88 is colored silver, to match a WEGA tv. I was so attracted to its appearance and features. And when I got home, and finally tested, I figured you really get what you pay for. This VCR, being $70 more than the Panasonic, it is ABSOLUTELY worth it, and it would stay in my room... Go get this VCR, you will not be disappointed. The Remote controller is a universal one, which could control your tv and vcr, and its buttons are luminous, meaning, GLOW IN THE DARK, so its a nice feature.

Strengths: Sony quality with stereo hi-fi sound for a very low price.
Weaknesses: While in the menus, the menu button exits rather than goes to the previous/parent menu (just a minor annoyance).
Summary: You can't beat great Sony quality at this price. The quick-set recording is a great, convienient way to quickly set for recording without even having to turn the tv on, great for when you are running out of the house, and remember you need to record something. The flash-rewind is also nice if you have long tapes that are at the end, and you want to watch something at the beginning. It may be refurbished, but it is refurbished by Sony, so it still has all the workmanship of an original, I haven't had any problems.
