Strengths: High quality unit. Great looking. Sounds great with the EQ. The remote is pretty easy to use once you figure out how to use it. Plays all sorts of media (mp3, wma, asf, and cds). Power options.
Weaknesses: Text screen on remote can be difficult to read, other than that, I have found no fault with my IMP-350.
Summary: I am quite pleased with my IMP-350! I believe that this unit was worth every penny I paid for it(119@BB). I did quite a bit of research before buying this unit and was unsure about IRiver because I had never heard of them, but after reading more and talking to more people in electronics I was sure that I had made the right choice. This unit rocks!

Strengths: Does not skip at all, plays MP3, WMA, and ASF as well as normal CDs. Also has FM tuner.
Weaknesses: The earbuds that it comes with are not very good.
Summary: The SlimX does not skip at all while playing. The remote is great because it shows the names of the songs that you are listening to. It can play MP3, WMA, and ASF as well as normal Cd's. The FM tuner is also nice because if the CDs that you are listening to get boring, you can switch on the radio. And there's upgradeable firmware. In conclusion, I definitely think that this can easily be the best portable CD/MP3 player around (even better than ANY Sony), and is worth the money.

Strengths: Small, attractive styling, lcd remote is great, the extra battery pack is great on long trips,
Weaknesses: the worst part is sometimes it can take over a minute to load a regular audio cd - always less for mp3 cds. Sometimes titles of songs hard to read on small lcd, headphones somewhat weak
Summary: Great cd/mp3 player - would recommend to anyone willing to spend the money. make sure you learn all the functions when you first get it as some of them are really great to use at different times. The fm tuner is nice if you only have one cd with you and are bored but other than that it uses up a lot of battery life. plus - unless you move the cord just right reception is fuzzy. but you arent buying this for the radio - so i would recommend to any and all who are looking for an excellent cd/mp3 player!

Strengths: all-around outstanding product
Weaknesses: none yet
Summary: This thing is a dream come true. It's fairly fast loading, sounds great and the remote is loaded with features. It's small size is hard to believe considering all that it does. Well worth the money.

Strengths: Super small, stylish, cool remote w/backlit LED, upgradable firmweare.
Weaknesses: Crappy ear buds and Remote fonts might be hard to read for some
Summary: I've been looking around for a long time for a good portable device that would replace my old CD player. I tried looking at MiniDisc, MD, systems, flash memory MP3 Players, and hard drive types. I happened to stumble onto the MP3/CD player line and saw the versatility of it. For a long time I debated on getting a CD/MP3 player or an MD player. I found that CD/MP3 players was great in the fact that all the stored MP3 on that CD can be used anywhere, i.e. computers, DVD players, other CD/MP3 players. While the MD can only be played on a MD player. What was the last straw was the fact that the CD/MP3 player plays CDs. This is excellent for I can use this to dub as a CD player when need

Strengths: Slim size, Backlit Remote Control Graphical Display, Upgradeable Firmware, Battery Life, Shock Protection
Weaknesses: Supplied headphones could be better. Must have remote attached to access advanced functions.
Summary: This is one of the best MP3 CD players on the market. If you are big on small size, this is THE best MP3 CD player on the market. For a gadget freak like myself, learning the menu system and navigation was a pleasurable task. There are a lot of options with this baby.

Upgrading the firmware offers you such goodies as creating Karaoke MP3 Text files, where you can see the lyrics pop up to your favorite song (really cool!). The sound seems a bit tinny until you stop using the factory preset EQ settings and learn how to customize the "User EQ" settings to your liking, as well as consider some over the ear headphones, (which easily plug into the remote, or directly into the unit. No more proprietary headphone connections! Sony, are you listening?)

I discovered that the memory built into the cd player, it continues where you stopped the cd. Even if you have switched cd's in it!! (Not sure how many CD's it will keep track of, but between two of them, the first a data mp3 cd, and the second a regular CD, they both continued where I stopped them and swapped disks).

The jury is still out on the push button volume control on the base unit, but it is sufficient and responsive, and smooth.

The brushed aluminum top case is a nice look, although the plastic body looks like it could take a beating, should you be so careless.

If this is your bag, and it likely is, get this player.

170 shipped at J&R BTW. Cheers.

Strengths: sophisticated remote control exceeds my skeptical expectations by a large margin. Have not been able to induce skipping during music play. Solid construction is very well thought out.
Weaknesses: I'm looking for a means to clip the unit to my belt. The carry bag isn't very useful. The line-out jack is more like a second (third actually) headphone jack. display is tiny.
Summary: I believe the line-out jack should by-pass the pre-amp/volume control, but some people like being able to normalize levels between stereo components. The price is high at nearly US$200, but worth it for this level of quality. The LCD display will be too small for some without using a magnifying lens; but it works great for me. Battery life appears to be greater than 6 hours using the internal NiMH's. Really glad I didn't wait any longer to buy the unit. -Scott

Strengths: Design, remote navigation, sound quality, excellent shock protection, firmware can be updated.
Weaknesses: No LCD on unit, earbud headphones (I'm not big on earbuds), firmware updates not Mac compatible.
Summary: IMO the best portable MP3/CD combo on the market as of 2/19/02. I just switched from using a Sony MD walkman, and I'm very happy with the change to MP3 cd's. Blank cd's are cheaper and burn faster, unless you get an expensive network MD.

Strengths: Very sleek design, great sound, does not skip, reads any CD. Rechargeable battery and backup AA batteries for long trips. FM Tuner with presets.
Weaknesses: I don't like the earbuds and the remote is a little hard to read.
Summary: It took a while to figure out all the things you can do with the remote, but I would not trade it for anything. I like that it reads any CD, so no matter what kind of CD I have in my bag, or if a friend gives me a CD to play, it plays. I have taken it on my vaccation and connected small portable speakers, so everyone can hear while laying on the beach or by the pool. Great FM reception as well if you get bored with your CD. All it needs is a good carrying bag, but this is really a personal choice. I spend some time finding just the right one for me.

All in All I have only praises for this player.
